Professional Development Workshops These workshops are presented on June 9-10, 2016 of PTHC for medical providers, behavioral health professionals, and lawyers. We are placing a special call to the talented and diverse community of providers, clinicians, attorneys, and researchers for submissions of workshop proposals. We are excited to hear innovative perspectives while continuing to offer a solid foundation in responsible and ethical service provision to trans communities. We are seeking proposals for the following tracks and topics: Continuing Legal Education (CLE) is seeking: Trans 101 & Cultural Competence Identity documentation Healthcare Insurance coverage Protection against discrimination and harassment in employment or in places of public accommodation Topics specific to particular segments of the transgender community – for example: teens and young adults; aging and older adults; and people whose intersecting identities (such as race, gender, and income status) make them particularly vulnerable to harm, including transgender women of color. Trans* Behavioral Health Initiative (TBHI) is seeking: Research and policy Advanced clinical practice Case presentation and conceptualization of work with transgender individuals Trauma informed care Intersectionality Specific theoretical orientations and frameworks of practice Macro level practice and programming Trans* Clinical Care & Management Training (TCCM) is seeking: Gender Identity of Children Post-operative management in the Primary Care Setting Current research/dissertation work Reproductive technology Malignancy risk and evaluation in FTMs & MTFs Insurance navigation and coverage of services General Community Workshops These workshops are presented on June 9-11, 2016 of all general attendees. We understand and are aware of the need for restricted workshops and privacy in workshop setting. Mazzoni Center staff will be supporting facilitators with designated audience restrictions to ensure the safety and security of all attendees. We are placing a special call to people who have experience (including personal and professional) to submit to our General Community Workshops. The 2016 General Community Track Working Groups encourage proposals that provide information and insight in the following areas: TF, Transfeminine, Trans Woman Identified Working Group is seeking: Trans women and (dis)abilities Trans-feminism Trans-womanism Trans-feminine genderqueer-identified people Trans women in gendered fields of work White Trans women and Trans women of color in dialogue about race, privilege and unity Trans-misogyny; oppression, marginalization and exclusion of Trans women by Trans men Trans women and police harassment, profiling and brutality Trans women and body image, weight and appearance Trans women and passing/passing privilege Trans women in recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction Trans women and depression Trans women formally/currently working in the sex industry Trans women resisting sexualization, exploitation and degradation in the media and in pornography Trans dykes Trans women and lesbianism TM, Trans Masculine, Trans Man Identified Working Group is seeking: Surgical Top surgery show and tell Lower surgery show and tell Medical FTM hormones Stopping hormones Hysterectomies How to access PAP tests Sustainable health issues What is health itself for those who are way past transition HIV/ AIDS Sexuality/Dating Trans MSM Partners of TM Dating –mental and emotional realities around dating/finding dating partners for TM Experiences/Social Network Building Passing or presenting Aging workshop for transmen Stealth Those who have been in transition for 5 OR MORE years, all ages o Millennials (ages 18-30) Gen X (31-46) Boomers (47-65) Silent (ages 66 and up) Those who have been in transition LESS THAN 5 years, all ages Parenting as a TM POC Socialization-what does it mean to be a man Non POC-white TM working on their privilege/what does it mean to be a white man amidst presumptions of privilege? How does class effect the socialization of being a white TM? TM survivors ( child abuse especially if the abuse is related to gender, and other abuse-the committee is very aware of the need to make sure that this workshop is done a safe and supportive way and is aware that this type of workshop can be challenging for everyone involved) Beyond the Binary Working Group is seeking: History of Gender Non-Conforming people Non-binary/GQ/GNC 101 Non-binary/GQ/GNC Youth- support/discussion space Non-binary/GQ/GNC and POC What if transition isn’t the end goal? o Options and resources o Support/discussion space Living outside the box with PRIDE Living in a fluid identity- how to navigate the world when presenting differently day to day Drag performance as a non-binary person Community support and resources for surviving and thriving “in between” Visibility for Non-binary/GQ/GNC identified people who present as binary o Those who have not medically transitioned o Those who have medically transitioned Presentation decision for non-binary people- getting what you want and need from your presentation Al-a-carte transition- picking and choosing what will work for you as a Non- binary/GQ/GNC person to become yourself By Medical professionals: o Medical transition options for people assigned female at birth o Medical transition options for people assigned male at birth Partnering dynamics and sexuality- how to navigate and respect identity in relationships with Non-binary/GQ/GNC people Discovering, exploring, and advocating for your sexuality as a Non-binary/GQ/GNC person Educating others about how to be respectful of Non-binary/GQ/GNC identity Safety as a visibly gender non-conforming person Navigating different relationships (non-partner/dating) in your life with confidence as a Non-binary/GQ/GNC Self advocacy in healthcare settings for Non-binary/GQ/GNC people Latin@ Trans Working Group is seeking: Language Access & Cultural Competency: workshops offered in Spanish and English with particular interest in workshops led by Latin@ presenters Access to resources for the Latin@ Trans Community (connecting to care and reducing stigma) Culturally relevant sexual health education: HIV/AIDS and STD prevention; safer sex practices & resources Medical services in Spanish Behavioral Health and Wellness services in Spanish Legal services in Spanish Housing Services Prison Outreach Addiction and Recovery Diversity and Unity among Trans* Latin@s Diffusing intra-latin@ cultural conflict Building community across Latin@ cultures Immigration Resources Status & Access to Legal services ESL and English language course access Family, Religion & Culture: trans* identities in Latin@ cultures, families, communities, etc. Aging Working Group is seeking: Comprehensive workshops ranging from medical issues, to financial and/or legal concerns, and sexuality experiences as they relate to the aging population. We are seeking to grow this track at the conference to include workshops addressing advocacy issues, family topics, long-term care issues, navigating public benefits, elder trans veterans, the Affordable Care Act, and the like. Information about the medical, legal, and/or practical aspects of transition that may be different from those of non-intersexed trans* individuals. Promoting understanding and cooperation between the Trans and Intersex communities Examination of trends in activism and how they impact the Intersex and the Trans communities – differently or similarly.
