In the ascend part,a resource guide, nprescriptive activity sequence charts list skillsand skill lev is for activities in seven categories: (1) teamgames; (2) iddividual and dual activities; (3) gymnastics; (4)dance; (5) aquatics (6) fitness; and (7) outdoor pursuits. Within eachactivity categoryspecific skills are listed, with suggested student ability levelsa which they can be introduced, regardless of studentgrad. level. Le rning outcomes for affective, cognitive, andpsychomotor domains arprovided for each cstagory. Instructional techniquesfor implamoni ing the levels approach are introduced, with sampleapplications for junior and senior high school tennis andvolleyball. Aspects of program evaluation and grading guidelinesare discussed, and a program implementation outline and flow chartare provided. The following also made contributions to theresource guide: Lee Carroll Mark__Tambiyn-- Jane Cousins Pat Vertinski Anne Gillrie Ed Silva-White III 5 These curriculum and resource guides have beenprepared with the assistance of numerous teachers and resource personnel from throughout the province of British Columbia, the B.C. Physical Education Teachers Association,and the Physical Education Society of B.C. In addition, the results of the 1978-79Physical Education by-the uteaming Assessment Branch of the Ministry of Education were reviewed and used in verifying and/ormodifying aspects of the revision of the 1961 guide. The need to revise the 1961 guide became apparent duringthe late 1960's when many physical educators,, throughout the province began to modifyprograms to meetthe changing needs of their students. Theseprograms incorporated activities which could be participated in throughout one's lifetime andemphasized the need to recognize individual differences. It was felt that the provincialguide should more closely represent the evolving programs. This book has been organized into two parts. "Part A: CurriculumGuide" contains the &era II intent and content of the program. Generalstatements outlining teach- ing considerations and evaluation are also includedourceui e provides basic resource information and suggestions for educators. The curriculum guidemiews physical eduCationas an outgrowth of needs resulting from the normal growth and development of children. Theseneeds are expressed in terms of basic goals and learning outcomes whichcan be attained through a comprehensive program of physical Viyities. A development focusemphasizing individualized instruction through theMbf levels approach hasbeen suggested as a means of attaining the goals and learning outcomes, Theseven activity categories recommended in the curriculum guide includeteam games, individual anfil dual activities, gymnastics, dance, aquatics, fitness and outdoor N pursuits. The section in the curricular guideentitled "Program Considerations" provides teachers with guidance in managing the Physical Education Program.Important curricula? considerations are outlined in the program contentsection while the essential, nature of accountability in Physical Education isaddressed in the con- cluding section, "Evaluation and Grading". The second part, the resource guide, provides teachers withactivity sequence s_ charts for a representative number of activities. To assist teachersin implementing their program, it also includes instructional and organizationalprocedures.
