Continuing where her previous album left off, Moonlight's thunderous and rebellious vocals reverberate throughout; underpinned by Matthis Pascaud’s blues driven, rock sensibilities. Simido is a product of two years of intensive touring, performing night after night, sharing music during the long journeys on the tour bus and bonding over a mutual love of Arctic Monkeys. Lyrically, the set revolves around Moonlight's hopes and fears for Haitian people who have endured so many challenges in recent times. Listen. Malou Beauvoir: Spiritwalker MBCD 2018 / € 10,95 / 0700261481012 / label: Malou Beauvoir / format: CD / Haiti – Vaudou On 'Spiritwalker' Malou Beauvoir communes with and for the spiritual traditions of her island heritage. The album is at once a celebration of the Vaudou spirits that embody and enrich the culture of Haiti, as well as a conveyance of their message of peace and awakening to the world at large. Beauvoir’s music is a rich blend of Haiti’s folk traditions and a compelling weave of contemporary influences, melding soulful melodies, hip hop grooves and jazz virtuosity. The songs – a blend of original compositions, traditional folk tunes and beloved popular Haitian songs – convey a powerful message of acceptance and community at a time of turmoil in Haiti and polarization around the globe. Melingo: Oasis BUDA 860359 / € 11,05 / 3341348603599 / label; Buda Musique / format: CD / Argentina – Tango A mythical figure on the Argentine rock scene, recently reinvented as exponent of wild and embittered tango, this singer, clarinetist and composer is a living kaleidoscope. Since the late 1970s, steering between pop, rock, dub, classical, folklore and tango, he has burned his way through both ends of several lives. Since 2014 he has created the story of Linyera: an alter-ego, a pretext for a journey to the origins of tango and of his own family tree, of which Oasis is the final part of a trilogy. Daniel Melingo, Argentinean of Greek descent, an artist fed on poetry and cinema, himself an actor, author of eighteen albums, was born in 1957 in the Buenos Aires district of Parque Patricios, a mythical place for tango. Listen. Lolomis: Red Sonja BUDA 860357 / € 11,05 / 3341348603575 / label: Buda Musique / format: CD / Belgium – Balkan As refined dreamers, facetious or fragile heroines, powerful shamans, impetuous young women or seasoned seductresses, these warriors of everyday life draw us into their combat and propel us into the world of love, life and death. The spirit of Red Sonja's "Guerrière Rouge” (“Red Warrior”) is inspired by the eponymous heroine born in a 1930s science fiction short story. The linguistic tour — Bulgarian, Georgian, Serbian, Romani, Macedonian, Ladino — deploys a thousand sounds and colours with twirling, intertwined harps and flutes responding to electronic creations on a base of tribal warrior percussion. Listen to a track. HCM Petra Micky a Jiri Hradil: Hruba Hudba 2664513 / € 13,95 / 8595026645134 / label: Indies Scope / format: 2CD / Czech Republic – Folk Two recordings, two worlds, one music and endless passion. Music as a link between time that connects tradition and present. The first one is the view of musician Jiri Hradil on traditional Hornak music, its connection with other genres and at the same time developing towards contemporary music worlds. The second one reflects the expressions of the Hornacko music folklore not only from the perspective of the artist's age, but above all from the point of view of the continuous singing (and music) tradition, which through older bearers is transferred to other generations and resonates with its old-world interpretation. Now, for the first time after twenty years of living in Belgium, Jola brings them together in an album that reflects the world of the Gnawa of Brussels. The tracks on this album provide a space for young musicians to sit alongside venerable masters initiating dialogue and responding within extended musical conversations. Listen to a track. How many Seb Rochfords are there? But let’s take refuge in facts for a moment: Rose Golden Doorwayswas recorded in The Old Church in Stoke Newington, London and features, in addition to Rochford, Polar Bear comrade Pete Wareham on saxophone and Neil Charles (Zed-U, Empirical) on bass guitar. De Boer writes songs that are taken apart by Hoogland. The resulting free space is filled with improvisation and poetry. Oscar Jan Hoogland is coming from the Dutch improvised music scene, he is adding and opposing a unique sound to Zea’s songwriting which makes their music tense, erratic, bold and high-spirited. Les Tziganes: Les Tziganes RMR 232 / € 10,95 / 8032584612326 / label: RadiciMusic Records / format: CD / Italy – Gypsy A meeting of different sensibilities, six musicians who retrace the most involving melodies of Roma, Balkan, Klezmer, Salento and Neapolitan music. Les Tziganes with their debut album of the same name speak to us about a fantastic world in continuous fading, in a moment the legs find themselves dancing to the rhythm of a pizzica or a tammuriata. Listening to the stories of the Balkan people or the Jews of Eastern Europe you feel immersed in a dimension suspended between dream and movement. The unique and persuasive voice of the singer Vania Salvatore is the glue that gives each song a tone of hilarity, joy and serene melancholy. Listen. Duoende: Rosa & Dimitri RMR 233 / € 10,95 / 8032584612333 / label: RadiciMusic Records / format: CD / Italy – Folk The encounter of two apparently distant sounds: classical and folk. Duoende is a gesture of love. It is the encounter of two apparently distant worlds: classical piano and diatonic accordion’s folk sound. Believing that their backgrounds share a very special core. For this reason they search for a common language. They aim to find a dialogue between their instruments not forgetting the different traditions and sensitivities. The title Rosa&Dmitri refers to folk songwriter Rosa Balistreri and classical composer Dmitri Shostakovich. “Who is Rosa and who Dmitri?”. Indeed, It doesn’t matter! Just one thing represents what they are today: Their common sound. Teaser. De’Soda Sisters: Arrivera’ L’Estate? MASOCD 99148 / € 9,45 / 8012957991487 / label: Materiali Sonori / format: CD / Italy – Folk They choose a rather angry repertoire, of resistance and love, combining folk songs, which talk about resistance, social struggles, with songs they wrote, which tell experiences and struggles they are close to. The politics, the climate, the polluted sea, the collapsing bridges, the roads that don't hold up, the closed ports, the wave of violence, the lack of memory, ignorance, individualism... all this concerns them directly and indirectly. Changing one's life and mind is the most difficult thing, but perhaps today is the deepest revolution, the only way left for true freedom. Have a good revolution! Listen to a track. Burruezo is inspired by the world of Al Andalus, its mystics, its crossroads of cultures, its music... to launch a message of deep spiritual significance and a vindication of the peninsular Andalusian medieval past. It mixes the Sufi songs with the flamenco branches, the medieval airs with the Persian laments, the Andalusian perfumes with the Sephardic airs and the most exquisite pop... Listen.
