PREFACE Armenian teworirt gangs have been waging a campaign of hatred towar- ds Turkey dunng .the last ten years, indiscriminately slaughtering and maiming innocent people. Unfortunately certain countries have attempted to justify and find ex- tenuatrng circumstances for these heinous acts of terro&m, which are a %ant violation of fundamental rights, international law and basic huma- nity. The campaign aims at wining the support for these claims of the so-cal- led "Armenian Genocide" which lacks any historical foundation and ori- ginates only in unjust and biased information arising from lies and slan- ders. It also seeks to achieve their demandr, which have no logical and legal foundation whatzoeuer. Such claims, distorting history and facts, are unfor- tunately supported by the media of some countries. The periodical MILITARY HISTORY DOCUMENTS published by the Militaty History and Strategic Studies Department of the Turkish General Staff, devoted its December 1982 (No.81) issue to the First World War years, so much referred to in these baseless charges and allegations. Docu- ments published in the periodical catalogue Armenian atrocities and massacres perpetrated on Turkish people in these years.

Anahtar Kelimeler: Su ürünleri yetiştiriciliği, su kaynakları, Gümüşhane, Erzincan ABSTRACT: This study, investigated the water resources, current situation of aquaculture production and its potential growth in Gumüşhane and Erzincan provinces. Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss W., 1792) production in the province of Gümüşhane and Erzincan has made a rapid rise in recent years. Rainbow trout production recorded as 15 tons in Gümüşhane and 4 tons in Erzincan in 1994, has reached 1.898 tons in Gümüşhane and 725 tons in Erzincan provinces respectively in 2009. The most important factor in this increase was the initiation of the use of dams for fish farming. In coming years the use of new dams and reservoirs will take effect and rainbow trout production will be further increased.

  • A View of the History of the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine
A VIEW OF THE HISTORY OF THE ISTANBUL FACULTY OF MEDICINE Prof. Dr. Nuran Yıldırım The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, the Department of History of Medicine and Ethics Attributing the roots of the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine to the Fatih Darüşşifa after a great deal of discussion, the 500th anniversary of medical education in Istanbul was celebrated in 1970. The soundest documents showing that medical education was carried out in the Fatih Dârüşşifa were the appointment papers (rüus) of medical students for the dârüşşifa in the 60 years between 1723 and 1783. These nine rüus, which were recently published, clarify that there were positions for six medical students in the dârüşşifa, and that whenever a vacancy came up, a new medical student would be appointed by the chief physician to undergo a systematic medical training. 1-Archival document concerning Ismail Efendi‟s appointment in place of Derviş Mehmet in Fatih Darüşşifa after his death. With the opening of the Süleymaniye Medical Medrese, medical education in Istanbul, which had started with the Fatih Dârüşşifa, became institutionalized. The opening of a medical medrese for the first time in the Ottoman State is accepted as being an important step in our history of medical education. The Süleymaniye Medical Medrese (Süleymaniye Tıp Medresesi) was a medrese for specializing, or a “post-graduate” course, as only students who had completed their classic medrese education could continue. Not only did the physicians that were trained join the scholarly classes, but at the same time they could be qadi or rising even to the level of sheikh-ul-Islam or grand vizier.

The overall prevalence was calculated as 30.3 % by palpation in a national survey conducted in 1995. However direct evidence that iodine deficiency (ID) is the major cause of the endemics has been lacking until now. We measured sonographic thyroid volumes (STV), urinary iodine concentrations (UIC), in 1226 SAC (9-11 years old) from Ankara and three highly endemic goiter areas of the Black-Sea region (i.e. Kastamonu, Bayburt, Trabzon). A considerable number of SAC were found to have STV exceeding the recommended upper normal limits for their age and gender obtained from iodine-replete European children. i.e 26.7 %, 40.3 %, 44.8 % and, 51.7 % of children from Ankara, Kastamonu, Bayburt and Trabzon respectively. UIC indicated moderate to severe ID in these areas with median concentrations of 25.5 g/l, 30.5 g/l, 16.0 g/l and 14 g/l respectively. This study showed severe to moderate ID as the primary etiological factor for the goiter endemics observed in Ankara and the Black-Sea region of Turkey.

  • Kemaliye (Erzincan) Case
Pak. J. Bot., 42(2): 711-719, 2010. THE CURRENT SITUATION OF THREATENED ENDEMIC FLORA IN TURKEY: KEMALIYE (ERZİNCAN) CASE ZÖHRE BULUT* AND HASAN YILMAZ Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture, Adnan Menderes University, South Campus, Aydın, Turkey *Corresponding author: E-mail: zbulut309@hotmail.com Abstract The flora in Turkey is an outstanding one in terms of its biodiversity and the variety of endemic plant species. In this study, efforts have been made to determine the current situation of Turkey in general and local region (Kemaliye), being rich for endemic plants, based on International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Sources (IUCN) in order to present abundancy of endemic plants in Turkey and conditions in which endemic plant have been threatened. Of 3504 endemic plants in Turkey, 12 are known to have been extinct and 3492 (99 %) are still being threatened. Of 61 endemic plants in Kemaliye region, 5 is known to have been extinct and 54 (88%) to be threatened. This study provides some suggestions about conservation and management of such plants by considering their threatened categories. Introduction Biological diversity consists of three hierarchical categories viz., gene, species and ecosystem. Species diversity implies the diversity of species in a certain region or all over the world (Anon., 2001). According to Hunter (1996), biodiversity consists of five components: 1) genetic, 2) species, 3) community, 4) landscape and 5) process or function (Kaya & Raynal, 2001). The fact that a plant grows only in a certain local area is defined as endemism. In other words, plants which can grow only in a specific and limited region on the earth’s surface are called endemic plants.
