Herb Alpert and Lani Hall McCallum Theatre Monday – January 27 – 7:00pm

Palm Desert, CA – —the iconic trumpeter, composer, A&M Records co- founder and philanthropist—will be joined by his wife, Grammy Award-winning vocalist Lani Hall, for a show at the McCallum Theatre on Monday, Jan. 27, at 7:00pm. The show is made possible through the generosity of the Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands.

Herb Alpert and Lani Hall, with their gifted band, perform an eclectic mix of American standards—everything from Cole Porter to , and everything from classic Tijuana Brass to Brasil ’66 to improvisational jazz. The current tour features a large video screen that displays many classic moments from Herb and Lani’s music careers.

On Sept. 20, 2019, Herb released his latest album, Over the Rainbow, which hit No. 1 on the Billboard contemporary jazz chart. It features one new song and 11 interpretations of classics by Alpert.

“It's just another album of songs that I enjoy playing,” Alpert told PopMatters. “It’s all about melodies and feelings. I always try to find melodies that are familiar to people and to do it in a way that's different than they’ve heard it before.”

It’s been an amazing few years for Alpert. Over the Rainbow came on the footsteps of the 2018 release of Music Volume 3—Herb Alpert Reimagines the Tijuana Brass. In 2017, he released two albums, The Christmas Wish and Music Volume 1, which both reached No. 1 on the contemporary jazz charts; and Alpert was nominated for his 10th Grammy for his album Human Nature.

A 2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Alpert’s albums have sold more than 72 million copies, and 29 of his records have reached the Billboard 200. Billboard listed Herb at No. 7 on the list of the Greatest of All-Time Billboard 200 Artists.

Two-time Grammy award-winning vocalist Lani Hall was the lead singer and “voice” of Sergio Mendes’ iconic group, Brasil ’66. She has the distinction of recording more than 22 albums in 3 different languages: English, Portuguese and Spanish. She is also known for her recording of the theme song to the 1983 James Bond film . She penned many English lyrics for the Brazilian songs she sang while with Brasil ’66, as well as her solo albums. She is also the author of Emotional Memoirs, a book of short stories, fiction and nonfiction, with personal memoirs that lead the reader into each story.

Through the Herb Alpert Foundation, Herb and Lani have dedicated their lives to philanthropy, funding programs that help bring creativity to young students and keep creativity alive for all the arts, for artists young and old, including jazz education and programs that teach compassion and well-being.
