MEET THE SPEAKERS E. King Alexander E. King Alexander, a 1987 LSU Law Center graduate admitted in , Lake Charles, LA California, Texas, and several federal courts, is one of two Supervising and Serious Felonies attorneys at the Calcasieu Public Defenders Office where he has practiced indigent defense since 2006, following a federal clerkship and fifteen years of civil litigation practice. He is LACDL's District 3 Director and has long served as Amicus Committee Co-Chair. In 2008 he received the LACDL President's Award for Outstanding Service, was named by LACDL to the Attorney General's Sexual Assault Task Force, and in 2012 received LACDL's Public Defender Gideon Award. David Anderson David Anderson is a 30 year-old California native living in . Covington, LA He has a background in physical sciences and mental health. Since graduating from Tulane Law School in 2012, Mr. Anderson has been a full time public defender in St. Tammany Parish, and he is a member of the Gideon's Promise class of 2013. During his time at the public defender's office, Mr. Anderson has represented defendants accused of aggravated sex crimes at trial in three different cases. Kim Basinger Kim Basinger has experience in differing aspects of law enforcement. She Mount Vernon, TX has been a Master Certified Peace Officer since 1996. Currently, she is commissioned with the Franklin County Sheriff Department in Mount Vernon, Texas. She has been a Registered Nurse since 1988, and is certified, in Texas and internationally, as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (S.A.N.E.) for adults and children for 19 years.Kim is also a Certified Forensic Nurse, Certified Forensic Consultant, Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Nurses, American Board of Law Enforcement Experts, and Fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners International. She is also the self- employed owner of S.A.F.E. Solutions. S.A.F.E Solutions is an organization providing resources such as: forensic medical exams, education to law enforcement, healthcare, and legal advocacy consultation. Michael Bennett Michael Bennett is the co-founder of Discovery Investigation Solutions, LLC Shreveport, LA (DIS). Specializing in criminal defense, DIS is based in Shreveport, LA and conducts investigations throughout the state. Mr. Bennett began his investigative career as a police officer with the Shreveport Police Department as well as serving as an officer in Lewiston, Idaho. During this time he developed both an eye and an ear for detail and learned the value of empatheic listening skills when interviewing difficult subjects. His criminal justice career moved from law enforcement to defense as he took a staff investigator postion at the Caddo Parish Public Defender’s Office where he investigated alleged crimes from minor drug possession to capital murder. He has contributed to defense teams as they make their way from initial preparation of the theory of defense all the way to final case resolution including mitigation factors. Mr. Bennett studied photography and journalism at Northwestern State University and Louisiana State University in Shreveport. He is a proud non- attorney member of LACDL. Franz Borghardt Franz Borghardt practices criminal defense in Louisiana federal, state and Baton Rouge, LA municipal courts as well as civil rights law. He is a graduate of the National Criminal Defense College and the Trial Lawyers College. He is a member of the NACDL, the LACDL, and the National College of DUI Defense. He is a CJA Panel Member for the Federal Middle District of Louisiana. He has previously been employed as a felony assistant in the East Baton Rouge Office of Public Defender and the East Baton Rouge District Attorney's Office. He additionally consults on jury selection. In addition to completing a certification course in the Standard Field Sobriety Test and advanced DWI training taught by the LDAA for prosecutors, he has presented CLE’s in the areas of jury selection, domestic violence, criminal law topics, and a seminar for law enforcement officers. He has written published articles on criminal law topics, cell phone search and seizure, jury selection, and social media. Franz was selected as a Super Lawyers Rising star in 2013 and 2014 and is AV rated through Martindale Hubbell. He serves as a member of the Louisiana Public Defender Board and the East Baton Rouge Alcohol Beverage Control Board. He is a graduate of the Paul M. Hebert LSU Law School. Danielle N. Brown Danielle N. Brown is a practicing attorney with the Caddo Parish Public Shreveport, LA Defender’s Office. Currently, she is responsible for more than one-hundred fifty (150) felony and misdemeanor matters pending in Caddo Parish. A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Danielle was awarded her B.S. in Information Systems Decision Science from Louisiana State University and her Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center. To further enhance her legal skills, Danielle earned a L.L.M. (Masters of Law) in Public Law and Policy from McGeorge School of Law-University of the Pacific. Prior to accepting her current post with the Caddo Parish Public Defender’s Office, Danielle served as an Assistant City Prosecutor/Assistant Parish Attorney for the City of Baton Rouge/Parish of East Baton Rouge, as well as a law clerk at the First Judicial District Court and an extern at the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal. Amy Morton Amy Morton, Macon: Amy is a licensed marriage and family therapist with Macon, GA more than 20 years of experience serving families in Georgia. She frequently interfaces with the legal system, providing services to families and children referred through the courts, and to attorneys who seek her expertise with regard to investigative interviews of children. Through a Victim of Crime Act Grant, Amy provided training for multiple counties across Georgia on creation and implementation of proper investigative protocols with child witnesses. Widely recognized as the expert in forensic interviewing of children, Amy has provided training for law enforcement, DFCS workers, school counselors, teachers, mental health providers, attorneys, and judges. Elton B. Richey, Jr. Elton B. Richey, Jr. is the principle in Elton B. Richey and Associates. He is Shreveport, LA a former Police Officer and a retired Army Reserve Officer holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Colonel Richey’s last duty assignment was in Houston Texas as The Inspector General for the 75th Division (Training Support).

Elton received his J.D. with honors from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. He is a Faculty Member of the National Criminal Defense College in Macon Georgia, a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and Past President of the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense lawyers. Elton is a frequent CLE speaker and lectures frequently on Wrongful Convictions.

Dr. John John C. Simoneaux, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist who practices in Simoneaux, PhD Central Louisiana. He attended Nicholls State University where he received Pineville, LA his B.A. and M.A. degrees in Psychology, and Texas Tech where he earned his Ph.D. For the past 30 years he has been involved in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and adults for the courts, the Office of Community Services, the Social Security Administration, and others. Dr. Simoneaux has consulted with various facilities including Central Louisiana State Hospital (Forensic Services), Huey P. Long Memorial Hospital, etc., providing diagnostic and program development direction. A.M. “Marty” A.M. Stroud, III (“Marty”) was raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. He Stroud, III graduated from St. Louis University in 1973 and graduated with honors from Shreveport, LA Louisiana State University School of Law in 1976. After graduating law school, Marty served as a law clerk to the Honorable Tom Stagg in the Western District of Louisiana. He then worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Louisiana and a First Assistant District Attorney in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, and he has been in private practice since 1989.
