Recipient of Emory College’s annual George P. Cuttino Award that recognizes faculty who distinguish themselves for lifelong mentoring to students, May 2009. Recognized by the Atlanta Jewish Community for thirty years of extraordinary service as a public intellectual on Israel and the Middle East, Event of Honor, Congregation Or Hadash, April 2008. Recipient of the Jeffrey Ross Memorial Award for Israel Awareness-- the highest honor from the Israel On Campus Coalition-- for “dispelling mistruths surrounding President Jimmy Carter’s book, Palestine Peace not Apartheid, and for his principled stand in resigning from his position as Middle East Fellow of the Carter Center of Emory University following the book’s release, September 2007. Recipient of Emory University’s 2002 Marion V. Creekmore Award for Internationalization In recognition of his excellent service in the advancement of the University’s commitment to internationalization, for pioneering work with the Emory Center for International Studies, his directorship of The Carter Center, and his outstanding scholarship in and promotion of Middle Eastern studies, Dr. Stein has significantly advanced understanding of international and global issues at Emory, February 2002.
