Where information has been derived from other sources, I confirm that this has been indicated in the thesis. 3 4 ABSTRACT Recent technological developments have changed the way video is con- sumed. The uptake of fast internet connections and ubiquitous mobile devices mean that people can watch via on demand services, and that viewers often media multitask with phones and tablets during viewing. This thesis examines on-demand viewing and media multitasking with mobile devices in detail. Two situated studies extend our understanding of these behaviours through video observation and diary studies. It was found that using mobile devices while viewing was common, though subject to dif- ferent usage patterns and individual differences. Self-reported media mul- titasking propensity correlated with observational data, suggesting that some people consistently media multitask more than others. People valued the free- dom and choice provided by on-demand services, which drove their popular- ity. Viewing occurred in a range of contexts and on a variety of devices. However, some were concerned that it was difficult to limit their viewing. In order to quantify viewer experience, a questionnaire was developed to measure immersion. -

Rai’s new programming schedule to face the Covid-19 emergency • News: - Tg1: three main editions at 8 am, 1.30 pm and 8 pm; - Tg2: three main editions, at 8.30 am, 1.00 pm and 8.30 pm, plus Rai Parlamento’s edition in the afternoon; - Tg3: three editions at 12.00 am, 2.20 pm (preceded by the regional edition) and at 7.00 pm (followed by the regional edition) plus “Linea Notte” (the night news insights); - Rai Parlamento’s usual editions; - All day long RaiNews24 intervenes on the above mentioned channels in order to provide real time updates. • Enhancement of the sign language programmes: The main news editions are simultaneously translated in the sign language while 2 subtitled editions have been added to the 1.30 pm time slot of the Tg1 and the 7 pm time slot of the Tg3. Since the 16th March sign language interpreters have been working remotely, connected via Skype, in order to reduce the risk of contagion. • Rai’s signature of an agreement with the Ministry of Education, ensuring enhanced cultural and educational contents: - “Speciale Scuola 2020” lists all the resources and educational tools with can be useful to support teaching, e-learning and research, divided by subject; - the tutorial “Scuol@Casa” offers e-learning advices in 10 episodes; - the social media campaign “La cultura a casa tua”, launched on Rai Cultura, Rai5, Rai Storia and Rai Scuola’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, posting links to Rai’s articles, insights and cultural programs; - continuous updating of the special insight “La cultura non si ferma” (“Culture does not stop” -www.raicultura.it/speciali/ laculturanonsiferma/). -

Studente Davide De Bernardo Corso di laurea Opzione Lavoro sociale Educatore Progetto Tesi di Bachelor Luogo e data di consegna: Manno, 19 febbraio 2018 2/70 “L’autore è l’unico responsabile di quanto contenuto nel lavoro.” Tesi di bachelor 3/70 Abstract Lo scopo di questo lavoro di tesi è di fornire alcune informazioni sull’utilizzo dei media digitali nella relazione fra l’operatore sociale e i suoi utenti. Molto spesso, come ho potuto osservare durante i miei periodi di stage, questi strumenti sono visti quasi solo in maniera negativa dagli operatori sociali e, quando invece si vorrebbero utilizzare a proprio favore, subentrano diverse difficoltà nel loro utilizzo. Quanto contenuto in questo testo può essere utile per chi desidera conoscere le applicazioni pratiche dei media digitali nel lavoro educativo, ma anche per chi vorrebbe conoscere di più questo mondo sempre più fonte di discussione. Il lavoro di tesi mette in luce gli aspetti sia negativi, sia positivi dei media digitali, provando a spiegare sia come utilizzarli in maniera “produttiva”, sia come far fronte ai pericoli che il loro uso comporta. Dopo un’introduzione in cui vengono illustrate le modalità utilizzate per la stesura del testo e in cui viene data una panoramica generale sul mondo dei Media si passa all’analisi del questionario realizzato per ottenere maggiori informazioni dagli educatori attivi nel contesto ticinese. In questa parte si cerca di far luce su quali siano, oggigiorno, le difficoltà e i pensieri sull’utilizzo dei medi digitali nell’educazione, iniziando anche a raccogliere qualche suggerimento scaturito dalle risposte alle domande del questionario. -
