ENHANCEMENT OF KNOWLEDGE, AWARENESS AND PUBLIC SUPPORT ON THE NEEDS AND IMPORTANCE OF BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION. 4 I PERHILITAN PIAGam PelanGGAN Client’s Charter Semua lesen menangkap hidupan liar dan lesen memburu hidupan liar (pemburu yang mempunyai syarat memburu) akan dikeluarkan dalam tempoh tidak melebihi satu (1) jam. All licences for wildlife capture and and wildlife hunting (for hunters who have requirements clause to hunt) will be issued in not more than one (1) hour. Semua lesen memelihara hidupan liar sama ada untuk pembaharuan, daripada lesen tangkap atau resit pembelian yang sah, akan dikeluarkan dalam tempoh tidak melebihi satu (1) jam. All licences to keep wildlife based on previous licences, licences to capture or official receipts will be issued in not more than one (1) hour. Semua lesen perniagaan hidupan liar dan lesen import atau eksport hidupan liar akan dikeluarkan dalam tempoh tidak melebihi tiga (3) hari daripada tarikh permohonan lengkap diterima. All wildlife trade licences and import or export licences will be issued not more than three (3) days from the day of completed applications received. Semua permit import dan eksport akan dikeluarkan dalam tempoh tidak melebihi tiga (3) hari daripada tarikh permohonan lengkap diterima. All import and export permits will be issued not more than three (3) days from the day of completed applications received. Sebarang aduan gangguan hidupan liar akan diambil tindakan awal di tempat kejadian dalam tempoh tidak melebihi tiga (3) hari bekerja daripada tarikh aduan diterima. Sehubungan dengan itu, pihak Jabatan telah meningkatkan usaha pemantauan dan penguatkuasaan yang lebih kerap dan teratur terutamanya di semua kawasan perlindungan Jabatan PERHILITAN. Sepanjang tahun 2008, sebanyak 3,588 kes pelanggaran Akta Perlindungan Hidupan Liar 76/1972 telah direkodkan melibatkan kes-kes teknikal dan bukan teknikal. Selain itu, pihak Jabatan turut memperkembangkan usaha kesedaran awam mengenai pelesenan dan jenayah hidupan liar. Assalamualaikum w.b.t and greetings The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) plays an important role in conserving the country’s biodiversity resources especially wildlife species and habitats in Peninsular Malaysia. Hence, the Department enhanced monitoring efforts and carried out frequent and systematic enforcement in all protected areas. Throughout 2008, a total of 3,588 offences involving technical and non technical cases under the Protection of Wildlife Act 76/1972 were recorded. This paper seeks to identify issues and problems faced by traders in the Rantau Panjang Duty-free Zone. In addition, the study also aims to identify socio-demographic characteristics of the traders, especially in terms of their citizenship status, sources of supply, ownership status of business premises, sources of capital and income. Data collection using questionnaire, conducted via face to face interviews with 52 traders as respondents, indicates that the main issue facing local traders is competing with traders from Thailand who rent business premises owned by local citizens. About 77% of the premises were rented from the original owner without the knowledge of the authorities.
