These Southern Ryukyu populations are therefore judged to represent a distinct biological species, which is described here as Fejervarya sakishimensis. This new species differs from F. limnocharis in larger snout-vent length (SVL). Also, it is distinguished from the latter in shorter head and tibia, smaller eye and narrower internarial space, all relative to SVL, and larger ratio of the first toe length to the inner metatarsal tubercle. From F. multistriata, F. sakishimensis differs by relatively larger tympanum, wider head, upper eyelid and anterior and posterior spaces of eyes, and longer forelimb and first toe, besides larger SVL. Furthermore, F. sakishimensis has a larger body, and relatively shorter head, tibia and hindlimb than F. iskandari. Also, this species is differentiated from all other nominate taxa of the F. limnocharis complex by a combination of some morphological characteristics. Thus, it is essential to understand the current status of habitats and their vulnerability regarding urgent conservation needs for target species. Günther’s frog (Hylarana guentheri), a pond-breeding amphibian, has a high sensitivity towards surrounding environmental changes, and can be used as an indicator species to assess habitat suitability. The purpose of this study is to establish a systematic framework to assess the habitat suitability of pond-breeding amphibians by using Günther’s frog as a pilot-study species. First, we collected frog survey data from Chiayi, Taiwan, from winter 2013 to spring 2015, and investigated the present status of the environmental conditions around the ponds. Next, expert questionnaires and the fuzzy Delphi method were applied to establish the hierarchical evaluation criteria regarding the habitat suitability assessment.

E-mail : [email protected] Abstract A new small-sized species of dicroglossid frog from West Bengal is described as Minervarya chilapata sp. nov. and compared to Minervarya sahyadris. It differs from all Fejervarya species by its smaller size, by the presence of a distinct white band on upper lip and by the presence of a rictal gland. The new species is separable from its congener in showing a more pointed snout, smaller tympanum and more developed webbing. Its advertisement call is described and compared to that of M. sahyadris. Lacang* Department of Environmental Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, Cagayan de Oro, Philippines Article published on November 30, 2017 Key words: Anurans, Habitat, Diversity, Canonical correspondence analysis Abstract Anuran belongs to the group of amphibians that are sensitive to the alterations of their environment and they could be used as bio-indicator organisms to follow changes in their habitats. The diversity of anurans was studied in the three sites located along the river of Mananum, Bag-o, Misamis Oriental, Philippines. Visual encounter survey was used to capture the target species. Diversity indices such as species richness, relative abundance, Shannon-Weiner function, evenness, similarity index were analyzed. Environmental variables were measured to know the species-habitat relationships using Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA). Results of the study revealed that the area is composed of 6 species of anurans namely: Rana magna, Hylarana signata, Polypedates leucomystax, Occidozyga laevis, Limnonectes leytensis and Rhinella marina. It was found out that riparian area has the highest species richness and showed higher diversity index compared from the two areas. Based from CCA, it was found out that the area is composed of three (3) habitat types namely: forested; shrub land; and rocky area.

We found that the calculated ‘t’ value 0.03 is less than the ‘p’ value, i.e. 1, therefore there is no correlation between SVL of females and clutch sizes.
