The views of the authors do not necessarily coincide with those of the Center. pbeat assessments by renowned western politicians have recently become commonplace regarding the future of the rejuvenated oil industry in the newly independent former Soviet republic of Azerbaijan, a relatively small country on the western shores of the U Caspian Sea with a population of about 8 million. Most oil industry analysts now tend to agree with both the view expressed by former British Energy Minister Lord Fraser that Azerbaijan’s “oil-rich Caspian shelf and new oil fields will certainly become one of the main sources of world oil production in the 21st century,”1 and that of former United States Secretary of Defense Richard Cheney, for whom the Caspian region as a whole “may be the first world-class oil province to open since the North Sea.”2 Out of an estimated 1,000 billion barrels (approximately 170 billion tons) of proven oil reserves in the world, one recent estimate puts the total Caspian share at some 27.5 billion barrels (4.6 billion tons).3 Azerbaijan’s total oil reserves were estimated in another survey carried out in 1995 at around 4 billion barrels.

Its applications for culture and human sciences are more recent. However, the development of such applications today is quite important in archaeology with amazing results. The proposal of this communication is to show how 3D modelling, and more generally data knowledge, provides new perspectives for approaching industrial archaeology, between knowledge, conservation and valorisation, especially in museums. A new way for us to imagine contemporary archaeology: by the way not only new methodology but actually archaeology of contemporary objects. That is we are trying in Nantes associated laboratories (Université de Nantes, Ecole centrale de Nantes) in stretch collaborations with museums. This double point of view succeeds necessarily with interdisciplinary questioning between engineering and human sciences approaches for the development of digital humanities. We are trying today to enhance and develop our interdisciplinary methodology for heritage and museology in a new ANR resarch project, RESEEDi1. Azerbaijan The Azerbaijan Carpet Carpet Museum Museum was created under (+ lunch) the Decree No. 130 dated March 13, 1967 of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR. From 1967 to 1993, the museum was called the Azerbaijan State Museum of Carpet and Folk Applied Arts, from 1993 to 2014 - State Museum of Carpet and Applied Arts named after Latif Karimov, from 2014 to the present time the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. At the time of establishing, it was the only museum that was dedicated to the art of carpet weaving. The main purpose of the creation of the museum was to store, research, and demonstrate unique examples of the carpet weaving art, which are the Azerbaijan’s national heritage. 2. Historical and The Charter of the State Architectural Department of the Reserve Historical and Architectural “Icherisheher” Reserve of Icherisheher under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan was approved by a Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on May 16, 2007 and the Department has been operating since that time. The Department was established with the aim to develop a unique management system, combining the functions and powers of central and local executive authorities in order to preserve and maintain the monuments located within Icherisheher and the entire architectural and urban complex for future generations. In December 2000, the Old City of Baku, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and Maiden Tower, became the first location in Azerbaijan to be classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
