First, Eduardo Pagan starts with a simple bill of sale for a 17-year old "negro girl" and learns how young Willoby's life unfolds from being property to owning property. Then Gwen Wright traces a powder horn from a muddy Minnesota field to a military captain in Massachusetts during the American Revolution. Elyse Luray asks what role a handwritten score played in making "The Star Spangled Banner" our national anthem. Finally, notes in a 1775 almanac show how conflicting loyalties strained family ties during the Revolution. (60 Min) 9:00 PT/ 10:00 MT: SUPER SKYSCAPERS “Building the Future.” Commonly known as "the cheese grater," the Leadenhall Building is the pinnacle of London's avant-garde architecture. Designed as a tapered tower with a steel exoskeleton, it's the tallest skyscraper in the City of London and the most innovative. The teams behind the Leadenhall project had to radically rethink every aspect of the traditional building model. This program follows the monumental challenges that come with erecting this super skyscraper: it will be constructed off-site, delivered to location, and stacked and bolted together like a giant Lego set. (60 Min) 10:00 PT / 11:00 MT: GANDHI “The Early Years.” Journalist and newsreader Mishal Husain journeys through Gandhi's early years in India to the end of his controversial career in South Africa. Hyacinth has decided instead of her usual gift to Richard of slippers that he should received skis instead. When Richard protests that he has not intention of taking up the sport, Hyacinth responds that he can cultivate the correct image by strapping them atop the car and driving about with them occasionally. (30 Min) 8:00 PT / 9:00 MT: SATURDAY NIGHT CINEMA “The Magnificent Seven.” A man in black (Yul Brynner) recruits six hired guns to lead Mexican villagers against the gang of an outlaw (Eli Wallach). (2.5 Hrs) (Here is some trivia about tonight’s film: Yul Brynner had a major say in casting decisions, including the decision to cast Steve McQueen. He specifically requested that McQueen be cast as Vin Tanner. Brynner later regretted the move since he and McQueen developed a disastrous relationship on set.
