Of Interest * Southwestern Oklahoma State is one of the few teams across the border in Oklahoma that Southern Arkansas has never played in football. The Muleriders have a 40-27-4 record all-time against Oklahoma teams, including a 25-19-3 mark against new Great American Conference opponents East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma State. SAU is 7-5 versus East Central and 18-14-3 against Southeastern. In fact, Southern Arkansas trails in only one series against nine different Oklahoma schools, facing Cameron once and losing that game. The other six Oklahoma opponents are Central Oklahoma (1-1), Connors State (1-0), Eastern Oklahoma A&M (5-0), Murray State (1-1), Northeastern State (5-4-1) and Northwestern Oklahoma State (2-1). * The Muleriders obviously feel they are a much better team than what happened in last Saturday’s GAC opening 63-14 loss to Harding in Magnolia. The wheels fell off from the beginning with the Bisons putting two touchdowns on the board before SAU even had an offensive possession. It wound up as the worst loss suffered in 53 years since a 52-0 shutout at Louisiana College in 1958, and the worst loss at home since a 51-0 blanking by Northwestern State (La.) going back 94 years to 1917. The 63 points were the second most given up at home in school history, behind only an 84-0 loss to Northwestern State in 1916, and equals the fifth highest point total allowed in the program’s history. * Located in Weatherford, Okla., Southwestern Oklahoma State was established in 1901 by an act of the Oklahoma Territorial Legislature and was first known as the Southwestern Normal School. The school received its current name in 1974, and today has an enrollment of approximately 5,250 students. 2011 American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll – September 5, 2011
