Graves, Musaper Sheriff Don Edward Beck is a teacher, geopolitical advisor, and theorist of psychology focusing on large scales, including social psychology , evolutionary psychology, organizational psychology and their impact on human socio-cultural systems. He is the co-author of Spiral Dynamics Theory, an evolutionary model of human development adapted from the work of his mentor and colleague, development psychologist Claire W. Graves, emeritus professor of psychology at Union College in New York, with whom he worked for more than a decade. Beck received a bachelor's degree from Abilene Christian College in 1958 and a bachelor's degree in theology and communication from the same institution a year later in 1959. He was awarded a doctorate in communication and social psychology with a focus on large-scale system dynamics and change in 1966 by the University of Oklahoma. His dissertation was devoted to the psychological forces that produced the American Civil War. Associate Professor of The Corporate University of Conoco from 1998-1999 and adjunct instructor of the Adize Graduate School from 2000 to the present. In 1974, while working as a professor in North Texas, Beck encountered Graves's article in Futurism. He contacted Graves, and at the latter's invitation he flew to New York to meet him in 1975. After two days of dialogue, Beck decided to record Graves' knowledge as his health deteriorated. Beck and Graves later joined North Texas State Teacher Christopher Cowan. Beck and Cowan left North Texas in 1981 to work with Graves full-time, which they continued to do until Graves' death in 1986. The main article of Spiral Dynamics: Spiral Dynamics Beck and Cowan further developed Graves' identified cyclical theory and presented a structured evolutionary model of adaptive intelligence called Spiral Dynamics. They first published their design in spiral Dynamics: Mastering Values, Leadership and Change (Exploring the New Science of Memetics) (1996). Through these value systems groups and cultures structure their societies and individuals to integrate into them. Each individual set of values is developed as a response to the problems of the previous Changes between states can occur gradually (change of the first order) or in a sudden breakthrough (change of the second order). Beck and Cowan founded the National Values Center (NVC) in Denton, Texas, in 1979, and Spiral Dynamics (SD) and Spiral Dynamics Integral (SDi) Cowan applied for Spiral Dynamics registration as a service mark in 1998, while Beck wanted to keep the name open for academic use. The two separated in 1999, and Beck continued to use the name Spiral Dynamics for the next few years. Beck was brought to work by Integral theorist Ken Wilber, whose book The Theory of Everything (2000) included Beck and Cowan in the spiral dynamics as a core element alongside Wilber's AZALE. By 2001, Beck began equating NVC with his new Spiral Dynamics Group, which had early mentions of Spiral Dynamics Integral. In the last weeks of 2001, Beck announced Spiral Dynamics Integral (SDi). In the ad, he assigned Wilber a significant increase in interest in Spiral Dynamics, and mentioned the influence of John Petersen of the Arlington Institute and Ichak Adize. By 2005, Beck's working relationship with Wilber had also broken down, as Beck felt that Wilber had misrepresented the Spiral Dynamics/Gravesian model. Wilber subsequently de-stressed SDi and repainted his levels in a level to match his spiritual accent. The Center for Human Appearance Center is a think tank founded in 2004 that emphasizes the scientific understanding of cultures and their evolutionary context. In May 2004, Beck worked closely with Teddy Hebo Larsen to set up the first human-appearance centre in Copenhagen, Denmark. Beck has made a number of trips to the Netherlands, starting with working for the Dutch telecommunications company KPN in the 1990s, including consulting with the Dutch police (2004) and leading to the creation of Peter Merry from the Second Human Origin Centre in the Netherlands in 2005. He continued to support the Dutch Centre for Human Origin, including the establishment of the Hague Centre. In 2005, Beck, Elsa Maalouf and Saeed E. Davlabani established the Middle East Emergency Center (CHE-ME), a non-profit think tank through which his involvement in the region was organized. Beck and Maalouf held meetings and trainings in Israel, speaking to the Arab Governor of Bethlehem, Salah al-Taamari; three members of the Palestinian Legislative Council, 40 members of the city council, civil servants and professors at the University of Bethlehem. As a senior adviser to the Middle East Emergency Center, Beck and the Director General of the Center Elsa Maalouf founded the Build Palestine Initiative, which focused on aligning value systems for the two public Beck and Maalouf presented at the United Nations Values Forum 21, 2007, in relation to approaches to global governance (26) Beck's consulting career made more than 36 trips to South Africa between 1981 and 1988. On May 3, 1995, both chambers of the Texas Legislative Assembly (Home State of Beck) passed a resolution (S.R. No. 901) submitted by the President of the Texas Senate, thanking Beck for his invaluable contribution to the peaceful creation of democratic South Africa. Beck worked with the Denton Police Department, the Texas Department of Human Services and the cities of Plano, Grapevine and Colliville. He has also advised companies such as Southwest Airlines and Whole Foods. He worked with the Dallas Cowboys and the South African Rugby Springboks.
