Games of the XXX Olympiad in London

The results of the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London proved the leadership of the European shooting sport at the international arena. The European countries won 212 quota places out of 390 which the ISSF dis- posed of. In the most intensive competition with representatives of other continents the European shooters won more than a half of all Olympic medals — 24 out of 45, including 6 gold, 10 silver and 8 bronze medals. 22 shooters from 16 European countries became medal winners of the 2012 .

It was held at the “Pampas” shooting range in Osijek (Croatia) on July 21 — August 3. 582 shooters from 39 nations have made 980 starts and during the 11 days of competitions we have seen excellent performance at the shooting ranges with high scores and exciting finals. In total there were 19 new or equaled World and European records.

It took place in Moscow (Russia) on February 26 — 06 March with 572 participants. This Championship served also as European qualification for the II Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing. 185 young athletes took part in those competitions. The total number of starts was 757.

The shooting theatre

The ESC has been continuing its efforts in making the shooting sport competitions more spectacular with the goal to turn the shooting range into “the theatre”. The Final Halls and Final Ranges are now a must for the European Championships. The area between the shooters and the audience has been cleaned from personnel and objects. The shooting ranges are decorated accordingly.

Broadcasting of the European Championships

Favorable conditions are being created for quali- tative TV broadcasting All 2013–2014 European Championships were broadcated by TV or through Internet. For the first time in history of the European Championships the finals of the Shotgun events were broadcasted live on the ESC website from Sarlóspuszta.

The ESC has been continuing to experiment with new formats. AIR-50 — the Mixed Team event in Pistol and Rifle has been in the program of the European Champion- ships 10m since 2012. Shotgun-50 — the Mixed Team event for Shotgun was tested at the 2014 European Championship in Sarlóspuszta. The Mixed Team events are in the program of the 1st European Games in Baku.

The semi-finals will take place at the final range.

Ranking after semi-final stage The two eliminated teams of the two semi-finals will be ranked in 5th to 8th places according their semi-final results.

Any ties for 7th place and below will be decided by the “Count Back” method (as per ISSF rules) of the combined results of the 2 members of each team. The top 6 teams (after the qualification ranking is established) will be divided by DRAW into 2 groups of 3 teams each (they will be allocated new BIB numbers as section 11 below) and will compete in two separate Semi Finals. The first Semi Final will be composed of the teams drawn with BIB numbers 1, 2 & 3. The second Semi Final will be composed of the teams drawn with BIB numbers 4, 5 & 6.

The athletes of the team drawn in position 1 will each receive BIB number 1, team 2 will receive BIB numbers 2 & 2, team 3 will receive 3 & 3 …and so on.

Road To Rio

Seven European shooters lead the world ranking in Olympic events. Four men and three women will be on top of the respective ranking lists by the end of 2014. In Men events there are three shooters from Russia who managed to finish the season with the highest num- ber of points: Sergey Kamenskiy — in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions, Nazar Louginets — in 10m Air Pistol and Alexan- der Zemlin — in Skeet. Besides, Erik Varga from Slovakia is the current “number one” in Trap. In the Women events Snjezana Pejcic from Croatia, Olena Kostevych from Ukraine and Zuzana Rehak Ste- fecekova from Slovakia will meet the year 2015 as leaders of the World Ranking in 50m Rifle 3 Positions, 10m Air Pistol and Trap respectively. The Olympic qualification has begun at the 51st ISSF World Championship in Granada. 18 European countries have secured in Granada participation in the Shooting competitions at the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio-de-Janeiro. 40 out of 64 Olympic Quota Places disputed at the 51st ISSF World Championship were won by the European athletes. Germany, Italy and Russia have got 5 Olympic Quota Places each, France and Slovakia — 3 each, Belarus, Great Britain, Norway, Spain, Serbia and Ukraine — 2 each, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Den- mark, Hungary, Slovenia and Turkey — 1 each. No doubt that among participants of the 2016 Olympic Games there will be all the best European shooters. Those who are well known in the world of sports for a long time and those who have only started their interna- tional career in 2013–2014.
