Fishes were caught with pulsed DC electro-fishing equipment from 28 sampling sites throughout Turkish Mediterranean Sea drainages between Göksu River and stream Boğa. The findings of the study demonstrate that Capoeta antalyensis inhabits in Köprüçay and Aksu rivers, and streams Boğa and Gündoğdu, all around Antalya. Capoeta caelestis widely distributed in coastal stream and rivers between Stream Dim (Alanya) in the west and Göksu River (Silifke) in the east. Metric and meristic characters were collected from the fish samples which obtained in the field for Capoeta caelestis and Capoeta antalyensis, and museum material for Capoeta damascina. In this way, morphologic features of the species revealed and Capoeta caelestis compared with Capoeta damascina to remove the hesitations about the validity of the species. Here we show that the polyphyletic appearance of C4 photosynthesis is associated with diverse and flexible evolutionary paths that group into four major trajectories. We conducted a meta-analysis of 18 lineages containing species that use C3, C4, or intermediate C3–C4 forms of photosynthesis to parameterise a 16-dimensional phenotypic landscape. We then developed and experimentally verified a novel Bayesian approach based on a hidden Markov model that predicts how the C4 phenotype evolved. The alternative evolutionary histories underlying the appearance of C4 photosynthesis were determined by ancestral lineage and initial phenotypic alterations unrelated to photosynthesis. We conclude that the order of C4 trait acquisition is flexible and driven by non-photosynthetic drivers. This flexibility will have facilitated the convergent evolution of this complex trait. More than 30 non-native freshwater fish species which are introduced for the different purpose were reported in Turkey. In addition to the freshwater non-native fish species, the brackish water systems are also affected by the fish species that enter the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal. This study aimed to identify non-native fish species introduced in the Mediterranean brackish water systems of Turkey. Thirteen non-native species from eleven families were identified from 15 localities along the entire Mediterranean Coast of Turkey between 2014-2017. This article examines the three alternatives proposed by scholars. It explores the geographical and historical evidence for each route, looking especially at the extensive road system that existed in Pamphylia, Pisidia, and south Galatia in the first century. Bible atlases routinely depict one route and the reasons for this choice are discussed. Based on a review of the evidence, a fresh hypothesis for the route of the first journey is suggested. Introduction The routes that the apostle Paul took on his journeys across Asia Minor still remain in dispute. A case in point is the route of Paul’s first journey from Perga (Πέργη) to Pisidian Antioch. Scholars have suggested three possible routes with variations for this journey. Two of these routes are routinely depicted in Bible atlases, often with little awareness of the ancient road network or the topo- graphy of the area. On a popular level, the recent opening of the St Paul Trail in southern Turkey has also stirred up interest in the route of Paul’s first journey. Although the St Paul Trail does not follow the ancient routes exactly, Kate Clow’s experience in preparing the new path has provided fresh insights into the region’s history and topography. -

Aizoaceae is represented by one genus and two species; Molluginaceae by four genera and five species and Gisekiaceae by one genus and one species. Accepted name, followed by basionym, if any, synonyms, phenology, distribution and specimens examined with full nomenclature citation have been provided. Bassan barbel, Barbus pectoralis Heckel, 1843, is widely distributed in the lakes and river systems of Turkey and its neighbouring countries. Bassan barbel is a fish species of commercial value. The aim of this study was to provide necessary biological features of bassan population from Kemer Reservoir. Materials and Methods. Biological aspects of Bassan barbel were studied based on a total of 206 specimens col - lected from Kemer Reservoir, during the period December 2004–November 2005. The fish age was determined from scales. Length–weight relation and Fulton’s condition factor were used to evaluate fish condition. Results. The fish were from 1 to 6 year-old. Fork length (FL)–weight ( W) relations were estimated as W = 0.011 ·FL 2.980 for all specimens studied. The estimated growth parameters of the von Bertalanffy equation were: L∞ = 34.8 cm, –1 W∞ = 549.58 g, K = 0.168 ·year and t0 = –1.590 year for all specimens examined. Conclusion. The fish from Kemer Reservoir were characterized by an average growth rate and it was observed that the specimen grew fast during the first two years of life. -

The Occurrence of C4 Plants and Their Morphological Functional Types in the Vegetation of Xinjiang, China

WANG Laboratory of Quantitative Vegetation Ecology, Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, No. 20 Nanxincun, Xiangshan, Beijing, 100093, China Abstract Floristic composition, morphological functional types and habitat distributions for C4 species were studied in Xinjiang, North-western China. 89 species, in 9 families and 41 genera, were identified with C4 photosynthesis. 48 % of these C4 species were found in Monocotyledoneae, e.g. Cyperaceae (5 species), Gramineae (38 species), the other 52 % was in Dicotyledoneae, e.g. Chenopodiaceae (29 species), Amaranthaceae (7 species), and Polygonaceae (5 species). Compared with those in semi-arid grasslands in North China and tropical forests in South China, more plant families were found with the occurrence of C4 plants in this arid region. Relatively higher annual species (63 %), shrubs (18 %), and Chenopodiaceae C4 species (33 %) compositions were the primary characteristics for the C4 species occurring in Xinjiang, and this was remarkably related with its arid environment. More Chenopodiaceae C4 species occurring in the region suggested that this type of C4 species may have higher capacity to fit the air and soil droughts. There was a strong relationship between C4 occurrence and habitat distributions, more than half of the total 89 C4 species were found in disturbed and cultivated lands and early stages of vegetation successions, indicating C4 occurrence was not only related with climate changes, but also with land uses and vegetation dynamics.
