  • How Have the Members of the Groups Been Chosen?
How have the members of the groups been chosen? For the LLF working groups priority was given to finding people with the appropriate subject expertise, while also paying attention to achieving a balance of theological perspectives and representation by LGBTI+ people. In forming the individual groups, it was not always possible to find both – although, across the groups, there is a good balance. Understandably, not all members wish to disclose publicly their personal stories, their identities or even perspectives, so face value conclusions about representation cannot be drawn. The Co-ordinating Group This group has responsibility for designing and implementing the overall production of the Living in Love and Faith teaching and learning resources. In addition, the group has been responsible for informing member churches of the Anglican Communion about the project and inviting their reflections on it, and for consulting other churches and other faith communities with a view to learning from their perspectives and informing them of our work. • Porvoo Prayer Diary 2021
PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year. We are a broad church with a middle-of-the-road form of worship, neither ‘high’ nor ‘low’, with full robes and music. We believe we are friendly, inclusive and loyal, but know we can do better to address the needs and desires of our congregation; both those who have stayed with us and those who may have slipped away. We are looking for someone who both values the more traditional side of our church life and shows leadership in exploring new ideas to further embrace all ages and aspirations; in particular those of our young and disaffected. We believe that we need to engage more with our local community, not only spiritually, but through realising the message of the Gospel in practical ways. We need a leader who will renew and energise us in this pursuit. We are blessed with the custodianship of a Grade 2* listed church containing many features of great heritage value, some to be restored this year.

The Bishops of Southwark The Rt Revd Christopher Chessun The Diocese of Bishop of Southwark Southwark The Rt Revd Jonathan Clark Bishop of Croydon The Rt Revd Dr Richard Cheetham Bishop of Kingston The Rt Revd Karowei Dorgu Bishop of Woolwich 7 March 2019 To all Clergy of Incumbent Status Leaving the European Union Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, There are a little over three weeks now before the United Kingdom (UK) is due to leave the European Union (EU). This is a time of great uncertainty for everyone as the country waits to hear the outcome the vote due to take place in the House of Commons on Tuesday 12 March. Even when this vote has taken place it is still difficult to know how life will be here in the UK in the next weeks, months and years. At this time we want to encourage our churches and congregations to pray for unity and for people, whatever their personal views, and to come together to ensure that whatever the outcome we work together to bring about the best possible way forward for the communities we serve in Christ’s name. At a recent meeting of Diocesan clergy who are from the EU 27 remaining nations we heard powerful testimonies of the costly nature of leaving for those who have been very secure in their identity as fellow European nationals. Some have even received taunts on social media. So we commend to your prayers the healing of the divisions which have been caused by the political turmoil of the last three years.

This has taken a great many different forms, and we know that it has been welcomed and valued by congregations, as well as giving glory to God. Now we are moving into a phase where we can once again, step by step, open our church buildings for worship. This is a cause of rejoicing, but we want to say clearly that whilst some parishes will be ready to re-start public worship in the coming days, we fully realise that for others it will of necessity be a longer journey to reopening. Above all, our commitment is to ensure that our churches re-open as safely as possible. We are encouraging Clergy to factor in the need to take annual leave and consider directing congregations to online alternatives should they decide to take their leave before reopening for worship. We would encourage Deaneries to work together and co-ordinate the worship that is available both online and in churches over this period.

  • ANNEX 1 General Synod a Covenant for Clergy Care and Wellbeing First Draft for Consultation Executive Summary
ANNEX 1 General Synod A Covenant for Clergy Care and Wellbeing First Draft for Consultation Executive Summary Introduction 1. This paper outlines the draft Covenant for Clergy Wellbeing, for consultation with the wider audience of the Church of England. This draft will be available on the Sheldon Hub (https://www.sheldonhub.org/) for comment and discussion by people in ministry, as well as being available on the Church of England website. It will also be considered by the regional meetings of the College of Bishops in autumn/winter 2018/19 and by the Houses of Clergy and Laity at the General Synod Group of Sessions in February 2019. A final post-consultation draft will be prepared for debate and adoption at the July 2019 Group of Sessions. 2. The Working Party wishes to engage in dialogue with as many as wish to participate, as it prepares a final version of the Covenant for the July 2019 Group of Sessions. To that end, those who read it are warmly invited to comment and respond to the Working Party’s proposals. [Please send comments in writing to [email protected] by 31 December 2018.] Overview The paper outlines the approach taken by the Group, with its explicit focus on the nature of pastoral care within a Christian context, of encouragement rather than demand, and its goals of: a shift towards the preventative (better than cure); a shift towards shared responsibility (a renewed sense of partnership between individual ministers, laity, local church, the diocese and the national church); a shift towards coordinated response (from ministerial discernment through to retirement); culture change (toward greater concern on the part of the whole church); and achievability (practical, pragmatic and useful at every level).
