Speech and Language Prefix Suffix April 2020 Learning Target: Lesson: April 2020 Students will learn prefix and suffix meanings to make new words and examples. BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE Many English words are derived from the Latin & Greek languages. This means that many parts of an English word are made of fragments of these other languages. These may be called prefixes, suffixes, roots, or stems. You can discover the meaning of many words by knowing some of these parts. WARM UP ACTIVITY FOR PREFIXES A prefix is placed before the root word to make a new word. The prefix “pre” means before. This can be placed in front of the word test to make the word pretest.
