By the time I had got down the lane it had moved round to our gravel patch, and a man came trotting up past our house to apologize for parking there. Naturally I invited him in for a cup of tea, and he told me the story of his life. From the age of two he had been a Barnado's child in the cottage next to ours, and at the age of nine had been sent to Australia without warning or explanation.

  • Stroud Labour Party
Gloucestershire County Council single member ward review Response from Stroud Constituency Labour Party Introduction On 30 November the Local Government Boundary Commission started its second period of consultation for a pattern of divisions for Gloucestershire. Between 30 November and 21 February the Commission is inviting comments on the division boundaries for GCC. Following the completion of its initial consultation, the Commission has proposed that the number of county councillors should be reduced from 63 to 53. The districts have provided the estimated numbers for the electorate in their areas in 2016; the total number for the county is 490,674 so that the average electorate per councillor would be 9258 (cf. 7431 in 2010). The main purpose of this note is to draw attention to the constraints imposed on proposals for a new pattern of divisions in Stroud district, which could lead to anomalies, particularly in ‘bolting together’ dissimilar district wards and parishes in order to meet purely numerical constraints. In it own words ‘the Commission aims to recommend a pattern of divisions that achieves good electoral equality, reflects community identities and interests and provides for effective and convenient local government. It will also seek to use strong, easily-identifiable boundaries. ‘Proposals should demonstrate how any pattern of divisions aids the provision of effective and convenient local government and why any deterioration in equality of representation or community identity should be accepted. Representations that are supported by evidence and argument will carry more weight with the Commission than those which merely assert a point of view.’ While a new pattern of ten county council divisions is suggested in this note, it is not regarded as definitive but does contain ways of avoiding some possible major anomalies.

  • Parents' Newsletter: Issue 3 2018-2019 April 2019
Parents’ Newsletter: Issue 3 2018-2019 April 2019 Welcome to the third newsletter of this academic year. Year 11: GCSE Preparation For our Year 11 students, attention has turned to the completion of controlled assessments and the final revision preparation for the terminal exams. On January 19th, we held our annual Family Revision morning, attended by over 120 people with Mr Patrick, Mrs Rossiter, Mr South and Mr Woodcock on hand to offer advice for the final push towards exams. My thanks also to our PTA volunteers who served up hot drinks and pastries to keep everyone going. The Easter break presents a very welcome chance to put those revision plans into action. We have been very impressed by how focused Y11 have been as they face the challenges ahead with confidence and commitment. For those parents who would welcome some advice and guidance to support their child in the coming weeks, I recommend you visit our website which has comprehensive advice and guidance from each subject area for the final weeks. Notice for all parents: Making appointments I would like to take this opportunity to remind all parents that we have a protocol for booking appointments to see staff during school time. We have recently seen an increase in the number of parents presenting at reception and asking to see a member of staff immediately. This often occurs during extremely busy times at the beginning or end of the school day. Can I remind all parents that all staff, including Senior Pastoral Leads and all members of the Senior Management Team, have teaching commitments during the school day and are often involved in meetings that have already been booked into the diary.

  • Group Newsletter June 2019
South Cotswold Ramblers’ Group Newsletter - June 2019 Published each year in February, June and October. We look forward to hearing from you with stories, opinions, photos, poetry, art, funny tales, cartoons, appeals, you name it. This edition was edited by Sally 01453 872729, email: [email protected] CHAIRMAN’S REPORT Another Chair’s report. What’s it to be this time? Forget the inspirational diatribes or the doom and gloom. I think just a few thank yous. Last week I was lined up to do a Thursday evening walk and a 12 mile Saturday walk. Unfortunately, at the last minute I couldn’t do either. So thanks to Tim who stepped in on Thursday and to Jill and Sue who just happened to have a walk up their sleeves to replace my Saturday walk. We do get the occasional emergency and it’s nice to find that there are people in South Cots who are willing to step in and help out. Don’t leave it to the same people to step in every time. Thanks as always to Mike and his team of collectors and collators for putting together the latest walks programme. Fifty four walks, plenty of variety and something to suit everybody. We often seem to struggle to find leaders for the last couple of walks. It would be nice if they could be snapped up quickly. Are there more potential Monday walks leaders out there? We could possibly think of putting on more walks but we would need to be sure that we could obtain leaders.
