The impact of which has been felt even in Clyst Hydon. Most events planned for April have been cancelled so please check with your organiser if you are not sure what is happening. Pauline Lotz No 1 Langford Green 01884 277441 8 Clyst St Lawrence A Miscellany of Little-Known Facts about Churches A packed church enjoyed a fascinating talk by Martin Horrell who explained the meaning and purpose of many markings, architectural features and carvings on churches, including mermaids, mason marks, hunky punks, witches’ marks and poppy heads. Some of which can be found on the churches in the Mission Community. Thank you to Martin for such an interesting talk and to everyone who came out to support this event on a cold winter’s evening. Donations for the Church Fabric Fund totalled £172 and we have been able to claim an extra £43 in gift aid on the donations. Annual Parochial Church Meeting The Annual Meeting of Parishioners and the Annual Parochial Church Meeting will be held on Monday, 20th April at 7.00pm at Town Farm. 9 10 Coronavirus Allowing Broadband. Last month I went to the launch of a new broadband scheme being offered by Jurassic Fibre (https://jurassic-fibre.com/) in conjunction with South West Communications. The scheme of- fers fibre to the premises and they are keeping installation costs down by not digging up roads wherever possible. Costs start at £35 per month for 50Mbps download and 10Mbps upload. Clyst St Lawrence and Clyst Hydon are currently pencilled in for some time in Phase 2 which is due to start in September 2020 and runs on after that although who knows how the timescale will be affected in the current climate. Jurassic Fibre have said that the more interest they get in an area the more likely they are to prioritise the installation, on the other hand, little interest and we go down the schedule. So if you are interested there is a no-commitment sign up on at jurassic-fibre.com. What be goin on I ask? In all my years down these parts we’s never seen so many an I think just in our area, we’s got more than enough t’ fill our famous swimming pool just outside that great watering hole, t’ Five Bells. It’s got so bad that I’s struggling t’ get out an the vintage ’53 moped is fair moaning. Had to get off an push t’ other day when the holes got too bad an it ruined my doc martins. Agnes, had a right good idea, I thought, an that was to allow them Romans t’ invade again. Let them in I say, an the roads would be sorted out gid an proper. Straight as you like fer as far as you could see and none of this tarmac stuff that seems not right fer the job. Good old cobblestone things. There be one problem however as I pointed out an it be with this new virus corona thingy. I’s think the Romans wouldn’t be allowed here at the present as they’s be fighting that bug themselves. However, once it be sorted we should get them right in and I’d know they would do a right proper job. An we could take advantage of their idea of entertainment if they build one or two of them colosal’eums. I’s can think of one or two that would entertain us like with their lions n all. I’s think the Romans would sort out them ditches as well. Clear them all out fer good… well’s t’ be truthful they’d get us t do it under their watchful guidance. They’s well known for their persuasive nature. Them ditches are a problem an don’t help the cause n if they be sorted them out, them holes might look after themselves. It’s got so bad that I saw my great mate, A R Buttis, sitting on a chair, real calm like with his fishing rod, dangling his line into one of these holes.
