Originally from the Christian Brethren Archive at John Rylands University Library, Manchester. Biography/Administrative History Benjamin Wills Newton was an evangelist and author of Christian books. He was influential in the Plymouth Brethren. Although initially a close friend of John Nelson Darby, their disagreement on matters of church doctrine and practice ultimately led to the 1848 split of the brethren movement into the Open Brethren and Exclusive Brethren.
