Minster & Katesgrove Neighbourhood Policing Bi-Monthly Newsletter The Minster and Katesgrove Neighbourhood Policing Team has now been confirmed. PC Joe Wyatt has been installed as the permanent Neighbourhood Supervisor (NS) and 2 Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s) are now dedicated to the area as well. PCSO Rod Holmes and PCSO Lucy Prince. Rod has a wealth of experience having worked South Reading and knows Katesgrove very well and Lucy joins us having previously worked on the Oxford Road team and so also knows the Minster area well. PC Wyatt is becoming more au fait with Minster but will get to grips with the Katesgrove area in the coming weeks. Rod has already lined up several Have Your Say meetings for Katesgrove, mostly centring around the new Greggs, the first of which is on May 1st, and the first one for Minster is on May 10th in the evening, further details will be advertised. Priorities on the Minster area are drugs issues around Wensley Road flats. Several reports have been received and work is ongoing with our Stronghold Team who specialise in this area. At this time we are looking to gather as much intelligence as possible before deciding on a firm plan of action. We are in close contact with the council and are working together to find a solution. People are of course encouraged to get in touch if they see any issues. Calls will be treated in the strictest confidence or you can ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. We are also aware of the drug dealing issues around the Holybrook area, especially the underpass. This is something that we will focus on more as the summer approaches and as much disruption will go into it as possible. The tents in the area are visited regularly and the occupants are spoken to and are signposted in the right direction for services whether it be housing or drug rehabilitation. Again we anticipate this will be more of an issue in the coming months so we will focus on this further. Katesgrove has suffered from some burglaries to industrial premises in recent weeks around Basingstoke Road and as the neighbourhood team we have provided some high visibility patrol in the area. We have been speaking to business owners and offering advice and also speaking to our Area CID team and looking to target suspicious activity in the area. We have one Closure Order in place thus far, a very useful tool we have to protect vulnerable people and also decrease Anti-Social Behaviour(ASB) in the area. This is on Temple Place and will run for just under two more months, having got it granted for 3 months. So far it is proving effective and the ASB in the area has decreased significantly after it had become a real problem towards the end of last year. It has gone a long way to ensuring the tenant does not get evicted and has been able to see her children more in the past few weeks.
