Institute’s Basic Information School of Engineering, established in the year 1978 is the largest constituent unit of Cochin University of Science and Technology. It started offering M. Tech (Part-time) programmes in Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in the year 1978 for the benefit of working professionals. PhD programme in Civil Engineering was initiated in the year 1986. All the programmes offered by School of Engineering are approved by AICTE (F. No. South-West//1-4267289267/2019/EOA dated 30th April 2019. All Seven B. Tech Programmes offered by School of Engineering got accredited by NBA under TIER I category for 3 years with effect from 2015. Out of seven, four programme accreditation is extended till 2022. Cochin University of Science and Technology (including School of Engineering) was re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade with effect from September 2016. School of Engineering came in the Engineering Rank list of NIRF for the past 3 years and ranked 116 in 2019 Ranking. The School at present offers 7 full time B. Tech programmes, 7 Full Time M Tech programmes, 4 Part time M. Tech and 3 Part Time B. Tech programmes. The School offers PhD programmes in all major disciplines of Engineering and has so far produced 87 PhDs. The School functions through Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Safety & Fire Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Applied Sciences & Humanities departments. School has been well accepted as a Research Centre and Major Consultancy Centre. A large number of research projects have been sanctioned to School by agencies like DST, ISRO, AICTE, UGC, KSCSTE, Coir Board, Coconut Development Board etc. The School has already completed research projects worth more than Rs. 300 lakhs. The School was selected for funding under Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) Phase II in 2011 and has successfully completed the project. The School has been selected for funding under TEQIP Phase III under component 1.3 in which we have been entrusted with the responsibility of mentoring THDC Hydro Power Institute of Engineering and Technology, Tehri, Uttarakhand State. School of Engineering is the only institution in the State of Kerala, other than NIT Calicut, to have been selected by MHRD for funding under TEQIP Phase III. The school has nearly 70% placement for its final year UG students. Nearly 70 companies are visiting the campus every year for placement activities. Vision & Mission Vision To become, an engineering educational institution of international standing by striving continuously in pursuit of excellence in education, research, entrepreneurship and technology related services to the society Mission -To provide high quality education in major engineering disciplines from undergraduate through doctoral levels through a creative balance of academic, professional, and extracurricular programmes -To foster and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships with alumni, industry, state and central governments through public services assistance and collaborative research -To be a major contributor to global technology base through scholarship and research 3. Information regarding the University Cochin University of Science and Technology was State University established in 1971 as University of Cochin and reorganized as Cochin University of Science and Technology in 1986. The overall objective of the University is promotion of graduate and post-graduate studies and advanced research in applied science, technology, industry, commerce, management and social science. It enjoys Academic/Financial/Administrative Autonomy as per Cochin University of Science and Technology Act 1986. School OF Engineering is a School of the University. Being a state University, it is having a 12B Status under University Grant Commission. Cochin University of Science and Technology (including School of Engineering) was re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade with effect from September 2016. 4.
