OHB’s Exploration Capabilities Overview Relevant to Mars Sample Return Mission

Within its core business Space Business, the areas of Exploration and Science play a key role for the com- pany.

The presentation will give an overview to all the OHB past and current projects that are relevant to the Mars Sample Return Mission, including some valuable lessons learned applicable to the upcoming MSR mis- sion.

During the presentation we will give an overview of all the know-how available in Europe and in Germany at OHB, that is directly applicable and relevant to the MSR mission (systems engineering, mission arquitec- ture, planetary protection, robotics and mechanisms, sample handling) showcasing some examples of hard- ware and studies performed in the past and currently.

The main highlight of the presentation will be the lessons learned from the OHB contributions to the Exo- Mars 2016 and 2020 projects. The Trace Gas Orbiter, the Sample Processing and Distribution System, the Analytical Laboratory Drawer, the High Resolution Camera and the Carrier; all ele- ments designed and developed at OHB for the ExoMars missions will be presented with an emphasis on how the work done and the processes learned the can be applied to the upcoming MSR.
