Crew Chief: Sam Stanley Highlights · Last Sprint Cup win came at Watkins Glen in 2003 · No. 7 is outside the top 35 in owner points and must qualify on time at New Hampshire · Best finish of eighth at the Monster Mile came in 2002 FROM THE DODGE ENGINEER: HOWARD COMSTOCK “At Dover, it’s essential to maintain momentum through the middle of the corners. Even though it’s a one-mile track, the corners are a challenge. They are wide, but the number of lanes that are effective are few. It’s important to find speed going down the straightaways. But it’s essential to maintain some of that speed in the corners, that momentum, so that you can rocket off the next corner. “Dover makes the engine more about torque than peak horsepower. The straightaways are short enough that you get to the horsepower peak very quickly. You can generate speed quickly, but then you have to negotiate that corner. You want to maintain as much speed as possible through the middle of the corner and then accelerate hard on exit. It’s the same process 800 times in the 400-lap race.” DODGE QUOTES: ON RACING AT DOVER “You have to stay on top of the handling situation all race long and that’s such a challenge – at least it has been for us through the years. The track gets rubbered-in and your car just gets tighter and tighter. Track position is always important and the fast pit stops and strategy from pit road is a must in getting you that. I mean you have to have raw speed but being able to adjust on the car during the race is so key.” Kurt Busch (No. 22 Shell/Pennzoil Dodge Charger R/T "Dover is a place where I've had success and it's a great track to race on. A lap around Dover is pretty spectacular. That roller coaster feeling you get climbing and falling off the corners is amazing. I feel pretty confident going back there and I'd like to think that Dover is one of my better tracks. (Crew chief) Paul (Wolfe) does a great job in making in-race adjustments and that is very important at Dover because the track changes drastically as rubber gets laid down. There are tracks that are temperamental due to the weather, but at Dover it's the track rubber that can have you scratching your head." Brad Keselowski (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger R/T -###- Additional information and news from Stellantis are available at: https://media.stellantisnorthamerica.com .

(Saturday, June 30, 2012) – Sam Hornish Jr. continued his string of rock-solid finishes in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. He finished sixth in Friday night’s Feed the Children 300 at Kentucky Speedway. The driver of the No. 12 Wurth Dodge Challenger posted his eighth top-10 finish and third consecutive. He remains fourth in the series championship standings, 33 points behind leader Austin Dillon. “That’s the thing that you’ve got to do; you’ve got to be consistent,” Hornish said. “We need to keep being smart and doing the things that we’re doing. We’re chipping away at it. We’d love to do it all in about two races and be leading the points but it’s not going to happen that way. We just need to be smart about what we do.” Brad Keselowski overcame the loss of track position early in the race to finish seventh, his eighth top-10 finish in 11 starts this season. Keselowski was running third when he pitted during the first caution of the race on lap 26. The crew had an issue with the right-front during the stop plus receiving a penalty for pitting outside the pit box and a tire violation. Keselowski restarted 29th but was able to work his way back onto the top five by lap 130.

  • Richard Boswell Biography
MIKE SHIPLETT: Crew Chief, No. 41 Ford Mustang Birthdate: May 17, 1972 Birthplace: Amherst, Ohio Hometown: Amherst, Ohio Residence: Denver, North Carolina Spouse: Brooke When Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) promoted Cole Custer from its NASCAR Xfinity Series team to its flagship NASCAR Cup Series program for 2020, crew chief Mike Shiplett earned a promotion too. Shiplett has been a crew chief for more than 300 races across the Xfinity Series and Cup Series, and it was his 2019 season with Custer that proved to be his most productive. In Shiplett’s first year at SHR, he guided Custer to a career-high seven wins and six poles, with 17 top-five and 24 top-10 finishes and a total of 922 laps led. It was a breakout year for Custer, who entered 2019 after consecutive single-win seasons in 2017 and 2018. Shiplett came to SHR from Chip Ganassi Racing, where in 2018 he earned six Xfinity Series wins, steering Kyle Larson to four victories and a win apiece for Ross Chastain and John Hunter Nemechek. It was a standout year for the veteran crew chief, but it ended up being short lived when Ganassi’s Xfinity Series team was unexpectedly shut down before 2019 even began. But as the door to Ganassi closed, another opened at SHR, whereupon Shiplett’s pairing with Custer delivered almost immediately. The duo scored the first of their seven victories in just the third race of the season at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. Shiplett, now in his 12th year as a crew chief, built his racing career from the ground up.
