It is located to the northeast of the Lake Onego, surrounding the rather lar- ge Lake Vodlozero – one of the four largest water reservoirs in southern Karelia (Northwest Russia). The watershed between the two lakes forms a natural eastern border of the region. From the south and north its borders were defined by the settlement areas of the Russians, who identified themselves as “Vodlozery”, i.e. inhabitants of Vodlozerie and not any other historical or cultural province.1 Interestingly, the region’s remoteness from cultural and economic centers had more influence on its development in modern times than during Middle Ages. A sys- tem of Vodlozerie settlements within the borders of “boyarshchina” – feudal lands of Novgorod people – existed here and was well documented in the cadastral sources as early as in the middle of the 16th century, and furthermore it was preserved almost unchanged up until the 20th century. Since the 18th century the region has become more and more isolated. The reason for this isolation is believed to be the shift of the trade routes towards the new capital of Saint Petersburg as well as the almost complete absence of roads.2 Indeed, there were never built any asphalt roads leading to the Vodlozero region. At the beginning of the last century, the lakes were oligotrophic, freshwater and similar in origin in terms of the chemical composition of waters and aquatic fauna. Three stages were identified in this study: reference condition, intensive pollution and degradation, and decreasing pollution and revitalization. Similar changes in polluted bays were detected, for which a significant decrease in their oligotrophic nature, the dominance of eurybiont species, their biodiversity under toxic substances and nutrients, were noted. The lakes have been recolonized by northern species following pollution reduction over the past 20 years. There have been replacements in dominant complexes, an increase in the biodiversity of communities, with the emergence of more southern forms of introduced species. The path of ecosystem transformation during and after the anthropogenic stress compares with the regularities of ecosystem successions: from the natural state through the developmental stage to a more stable mature modification, with significantly different natural characteristics. A peculiarity of the newly formed ecosystems is the change in structure and the higher productivity of biological communities, explained by the stability of the newly formed biogeochemical nutrient cycles, as well as climate warming. -

2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA'n' WATERWAYS
- The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the 21st FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018,[2] 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA’n’WATERWAYS after the country was awarded the hosting rights on 2 December 2010. This will be the rst World Cup held in Europe since 2006; all but one of the stadium venues are in European Russia, west of the Ural Mountains to keep travel time manageable. - The nal tournament will involve 32 national teams, which include 31 teams determined through qualifying competitions and Routes from the Five Seas 14 June - 15 July 2018 the automatically quali ed host team. A total of 64 matches will be played in 12 venues located in 11 cities. Nikolai Klyuev Nikolai Klyuev (1884-1937) is one of the most intriguing figures in Russian Modernism. A “new-peasant poet” from the Russian north, but also a product of and producer of Russian Modernist poetry; a cultural archaist, but also a homosexual; a promoter of the values and interests both of the Old Belief, and of Russian sectarianism, but also, especially in his later years, a defender of Orthodoxy; an erstwhile member of the Bolshevik Party, who was arrested and exiled in 1934, and finally (and predictably) arrested and shot in 1937; a poet who self-consciously promoted himself as a “prophet”, some of whose prophetic verses have indeed proved remarkably accurate (ecological problems for Russia, disaster from Bolshevik policies, his own recovery from oblivion, and so on) – he is a complex and fascinatingly contradictory figure. His poetry, moreover, is both difficult and intriguing. An excellent Russian-language site (with minor contributions from M. Makin, it should be admitted) devoted to all the “new-peasant poets” can be found at: Новокрестьянские поэты. There you will find more of Klyuev’s poetry, and a lot of other material on the poet. Klyuev’s claims to literal descent from Old Believers (dissenters from official Orthodoxy, who refuse to accept the church reforms of the 17th century and the social reforms of the Petrine era) are always through the maternal line. -

They also serve as na- ture labs and experimental grounds for various sorts of monitoring research around the world. An object for environmen- tal co-operation between neighbouring countries is an international PA, such as the Finnish-Russian Friendship Nature Reserve with Kostomuksha State Nature Reserve as its component part. Research in its Russian part has been conducted by scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Russian universities and PAs in collaboration with their foreign colleagues. This special issue of the journal Nature Conservation Research celebrates an anniversary of the foundation of the international Friendship Nature Reserve. It reports some results and current data on the state of ecosystems and their components both in the Kostomuksha State Nature Reserve and in some other PAs of Russia and Finland. Ce papier est centré sur l’histoire récente des invasions par les crustacés malacostracés (Amphipodes et Décapodes) dans le bassin du Neva (le plus grand fleuve du nord-est de la Russie). Ce papier analyse nos données et celles de la littérature concernant la distribution géographique des invasifs dans le bassin du Neva (essentiellement six espèces Chelicorophium curvispinum, Pontogammarus robustoides, Gmelinoides fasciatus, Gammarus tigrinus, Eriocheir sinensis et Astacus leptodactylus). Nous discutons également de l’histoire des invasions par ces espèces exotiques, les vecteurs possibles de leur extension à partir de leur aire d’origine mais aussi l’effet potentiel des interactions trophiques entre les amphipodes et les décapodes exotiques et les espèces natives. Les principales voies d’invasions dans la mer Baltique à partir des différents bassins sont liées aux activités humaines (principalement liées à la création de continuum rivières-canaux/corridors d’invasions et introduction volontaire/commerce). -
