Wednesday, February 22, 2012 METRO 3 Milliner turns heads as she sends Fashion Week models down the catwalk in the buff You can leave your hat on

by JENNI MARSH

THIS year it seems all the cool kids are wearing... nothing. That was the message from London Fashion Week yesterday as Robyn Coles’ models paraded down the runway in their birthday suits, complemented only by a selection of felt hats. The milliner also bucked the trend for using size zero glamazons by having her eight-months pregnant pal Sophia Cahill, an ex-Miss Wales, premiere her headgear. And, just like in the fairytale of the Emperor’s New Clothes, the audience didn’t bat an eyelid as the nude models strutted their stuff at the White Rabbit Studio in Shoreditch, east London. ‘When you’re a new brand you have to attract attention somehow,’ said Coles, a 31-year-old former Armani buyer from Pontypool, south Wales. ‘I wanted to show that all kinds of people can wear headgear. A hat will never make you look fat.’ CENSORED

Christ is seen as a tormented figure howling in pain in the sculpture Die Harder, which goes on display at South- wark Cathedral today. Edinburgh-based artist David Mach used melted-down coat hangers, with the straightened hooks sticking out of the body as sharp spikes. Mr Mach, who has created other crucifixion scenes, is inspired by the ‘struggle, pain, love and death’ in the Bible. Officials at the London cathedral hope the figure ‘will bring home to people the human agony of the crucifixion’. It will remain on display until Good Friday on April 6.

Beaton In Vogue by Josephine Ross (Thames & Hudson, £24.95) is a sumptuous compilation of the characterful photographs, sparkling essays and elegant illustrations produced by Cecil Beaton for the style bible over the course of more than half a century. Images such as the snap of a grinning Twiggy, perching legs astride on top of a wardrobe, demonstrate his knack for letting the personality of his subjects shine through. As well as high fashion, there are his war photographs, writings and drawings, from London in the Blitz to China (pictured) and the north African Desert.
