Medium-sized Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Systems in Serbia Project Financing MW-SER-ENV-CEB;KFW- WBIF Grant € 3,000,000 01 KFW Loan € 25,000,000 Germany (via KfW) External Grant Grant € 19,250,000 Germany (via KfW) External Grant Grant € 1,250,000 Total € 48,500,000 Total Grants € 3,000,000 Total Loans € 25,000,000 Project Description As part of a widespread effort to upgrade water supply and wastewater disposal across Serbia attention is being focused on second-tier medium-sized cities and towns. This process is being assisted with finance and support from IFIs and the WBIF. The support is helping the second stage of an existing programme: water supply and sewage disposal in medium-sized Serbian towns. This programme focuses on achieving long-term reductions in water losses, investments in water production and processing, as well as investments in the expansion of existing networks. Funds in excess of EUR 39 million will be used for investments in seven Serbian medium- sized cities and towns’ water supply and sanitation systems; these are Kraljevo, Loznica, Pancevo, Sabac, Smederevo, Sombor, and Vrsac. The programme’s selected cities, towns, and municipalities, through their respective water utilities, act as project implementation units (PIU). These PIUs are responsible for the planning and implementation of the investments. They are supported by an implementation consultant who help with planning, tendering and construction supervision. They are also supported by a consultant for technical assistance to strengthen their internal administration and commercial performance. Both consultants assist the utilities in installing management information systems (MIS), updating tariff adjustment plans, developing human resources training needs analysis in billing and collection as well as leak detection, improving public relations with customers, detecting leaks through training leakage teams and following up leak detection surveys as well as developing preventive operation and maintenance plans.

  • ABSTRACT Title of Document: the FURTHEST
ABSTRACT Title of Document: THE FURTHEST WATCH OF THE REICH: NATIONAL SOCIALISM, ETHNIC GERMANS, AND THE OCCUPATION OF THE SERBIAN BANAT, 1941-1944 Mirna Zakic, Ph.D., 2011 Directed by: Professor Jeffrey Herf, Department of History This dissertation examines the Volksdeutsche (ethnic Germans) of the Serbian Banat (northeastern Serbia) during World War II, with a focus on their collaboration with the invading Germans from the Third Reich, and their participation in the occupation of their home region. It focuses on the occupation period (April 1941-October 1944) so as to illuminate three major themes: the mutual perceptions held by ethnic and Reich Germans and how these shaped policy; the motivation behind ethnic German collaboration; and the events which drew ethnic Germans ever deeper into complicity with the Third Reich. The Banat ethnic Germans profited from a fortuitous meeting of diplomatic, military, ideological and economic reasons, which prompted the Third Reich to occupy their home region in April 1941. They played a leading role in the administration and policing of the Serbian Banat until October 1944, when the Red Army invaded the Banat. The ethnic Germans collaborated with the Nazi regime in many ways: they accepted its worldview as their own, supplied it with food, administrative services and eventually soldiers. They acted as enforcers and executors of its policies, which benefited them as perceived racial and ideological kin to Reich Germans. These policies did so at the expense of the multiethnic Banat‟s other residents, especially Jews and Serbs. In this, the Third Reich replicated general policy guidelines already implemented inside Germany and elsewhere in German-occupied Europe.

DOI: 10.15503/jecs20132-71-78 Journal of Education Culture and Society No. 2_2013 71 The use of the modern technology in educational work: user study for digitization of cultural heritage MILICA LAJBENŠPERGER [email protected] National Employment Service, Serbia MARIJA ŠEGAN [email protected] Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Serbia SANJA RAJIĆ [email protected] School for Mechanical and Electrical Engineering “Goša” in Smederevska Palanka, Serbia Abstract In the Republic of Serbia the idea that the digitization of cultural heritage could be used to popularize and utilize modern technologies in education was rst realized in 2012. One of the results of this project was a user study. In this paper we indicate some of project’s fragments and present some of the results of the conducted research. Key words: digitization, cultural heritage, education, user study. Introduction The development of a national project that makes use of the digitization of cul- tural heritage to popularize and utilize new technologies in education of the Repub- lic of Serbia1 has been prompted by two cir cumstances. First, the digital preservation of cultural heritage is listed as one of the priorities of the current strategy of the development of science and tech nology in the Republic of Serbia. Second, Serbia has recently adopted a program that aims at promoting scienti c and technologi- cal knowledge among young people. In 2012, more than one hundred high school teachers a nd students from the Podunavlje District in Serbia (School for Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Goša in Smederevska Palanka and Gymnasium of Velika Plana in Velika Plana) were familiarized with the basic principles of the digitiza- tion of cultural heritage and trained to apply the new knowledge in the school cur- riculum.

Górnictwo i Geoinżynieria • Rok 35 • Zeszyt 3 • 2011 Milan Radunović*, Obrad Kecman*, Tanja Mihajlović*, Jörg Schlenstedt**, Peter Denke**, Dusan Djuric*** THE POSSIBILITIES AND CHANCES OF THE PROJECT ENERGY COMPLEX KOVIN ⎯ NEW COAL MINE AND POWER PLANT 1. Introduction The first geological studies in Kovinski basin started in 1976 to 1979. The results of these studies showed the presence of interesting economic coal beds. Coal is of such quality that can be used in thermal power plants. The entire studies took place in stages that are aimed at determining the quantity and quality of coal required to open the power plant. Due to the specific areas and great influence of underground water, the experimental test pit was opened on the banks of the Danube. In this pit method that was used is underwater mining of coal, and this method proved to be an alternative to dry mine Kostolac the other side of the Danube. Due to the specific conditions in the protected part of the deposit fields A and B, were considered two types of mining coal: dry open pit mining and underwater. 2. General part 2.1. Geographical location In geographical terms Kovin coal deposit is situated about 50 km east of Belgrade, in the municipality of Kovin, in the villages Malo Bavanište i Beli Breg and it is bounded by the Danube on south, line Dubovac-Gaj on north, Deliblato- delta river V. Morava to the west and village Gaj to the east. * Energy Consulting and Engineering, Novi Sad, Serbia ** LMBV International, Senftenberg, Germany *** Insitut Jaroslav Černi, Beograd, Serbia 291 2.2.

These values are the result of a complex geological structure and geomorphological processes that took place in this area, during the Earth's history. The main goal of this paper is to present the possibility for geotourism development in the Bela Crkva municipality. One of the aims is also to investigate the attitudes of local people and tourists about geotourism development in the Bela Crkva municipality as well as their familiarity with the geopotential of this area. The paper proposes several important and easily accessible geosites which can provide an excellent basis for future geotourism development, however, research results indicate the need for better tourism infrastructure as well as better promotional activities in order to attract more visitors to the proposed geosites. Key words: geosites, geoheritage, geotourism, Bela Crkva, Serbia INTRODUCTION geosites and geomorphosites and their encompassing topography, together with In recent years, there has been an their associated in-situ and ex-situ artefacts, increasing number of different forms of to constituency-build for their conservation tourism on the global tourist market. One of by generating appreciation, learning and these special forms of tourism is research by and for current and future geotourism, that is primarily based on generations” (Hose, 2012).
