International Media Impact Fgv Social - International INTERNATIONAL MEDIA IMPACT FGV SOCIAL - INTERNATIONAL The scope of action of FGV Social goes beyond Brazilian territory. We constantly participate in lectures and seminars in several countries, in addition to meeting specific demands for research projects and analysis of public policies for governments, non-governmental organizations and multilateral organizations. We give lectures and keynote speeches in places like Princeton, Columbia, MIT, Harvard, Chicago, Brown, Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, PSE, OECD and Davos. Alongside traditional international organizations such as the UN and its agencies, the World Bank, among others, we seek to develop complementary works. We evaluated social projects in more than two dozen countries. One publication in this line is “Microcredit Diaries: assessing microcredit impacts on grassroots development in Peru, Nicaragua and Mexico”. Since 2006, international community has shown widespread interest in our researches. Issues such as poverty, inequality and associated policies are prominent from the outset. The creation of the World Without Poverty (WWP) knowledge hub and the award we received from the Global Development Network in 2005 for a model proposal linking local social policies to the Millennium Development Goals are fruits of this external demand. Our research on the rise of the new middle class has also gained significant importance, incorporating the demand of a more business- oriented audience. For example, we visited all BRICS countries in this process, as well as participating in OECD events and the World Economic Forum (WEF) to discuss this theme. In this process we have strengthen the presence of FGV in the international arena. This occurs most significantly through the dissemination of research aimed at the external public, including academics, opinion makers and policy makers. In these surveys, we provide additional, more qualified inputs, such as interactive English databases. However, our main goal is to reach the ordinary citizen from other parts of the globe, through the foreign media, our main channel of communication. Myriad stories have been published in major international publications: The Economist, The Financial Times, The NY Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Streeet Journal, BBC, CNN, El País, La Nacion, Le Monde, Le Figaro, among others. The advantage of this more horizontal diffusion strategy is that we reach at once all segments of the target audience in different countries. +1.136 INTERNATIONAL MEDIAS IMPACT ON MAIN JOURNALS AND INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINES 19 07 23 18 08 04 09 08 04 03 04 17 MEDIA IMPACT IN + 64 COUNTRIES MAP OF COUNTRIES IMPACT Countries Algeria Dominican Republic Jamaica Saudi Arabia Angola Ecuador Japan Scotland Argentina El Salvador Korea Singapore Australia England Lithuania South Africa Austria Finland Mexico Spain Belgium France Morocco Sweden Bolivia Germany Netherlands Switzerland Bulgaria Greece New Zealand Tanzania Canada Guatemala Norway Turkey United Arab Chile Honduras Oman Emirates China Hungary Paraguay United Kingdom Colombia India Peru United States Costa Rica Indonesia Portugal Uruguay Cuba Iran Puerto Rico Vatican Cyprus Ireland Qatar Venezuela Denmark Italy Russia Viet Nam INTERNATIONAL MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS 24h - Vietnã - Người dân Brazil sống khổ sở vì khủng hoảng kinh tế (Povo brasileiro vive crise econômica miserável) ABC News - Brazil Govt: Homicide Rate Dips After Gun Control AFP - Brésil: parce que les femmes noires de Rio le valent bien Agenda Vecinal - Brasil el lider munidal de la "Felicidad Futura" Aljazeera - Brazil looks to attract foreign workers BBC - Entrevista (Estúdio da BBC - Ao Vivo) BBC - Internacional – Entrevista / Olympics BBC Mundo - Crisis del euro: riesgo social para América Latina BBC World News TV BBC World News TV Bloomberg - The Rio de Janeiro Olympics Were Not a Disaster.
Uma publicação nossa nesta linha é “Microcredit Diaries: assessing microcredit impacts on grassroots development in Peru, Nicaragua and Mexico”.

  • Muslim Persecution of Christians
MUSLIM PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS By Robert Spencer 1 Muslim Persecution of Christians Copyright 2008 David Horowitz Freedom Center PO Box 55089 “Get out your weapons,” commanded Jaffar Umar Thalib, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423 a 40-year-old Muslim cleric, over Indonesian radio in May (800) 752-6562 2002. “Fight to the last drop of blood.”1 [email protected] The target of this jihad was Indonesian Christians. Christians, Jaffar explained, were “belligerent infidels” www.TerrorismAwareness.org (kafir harbi) and entitled to no mercy. This designation was ISBN # 1-886442-36-3 not merely a stylistic flourish on Jaffar’s part. On the contrary, Printed in the United States of America kafir harbi is a category of infidel that is clearly delineated in Islamic theology. By using this term, Jaffar was not only inciting his followers to violence, but telling them that their actions were theologically sanctioned. Jaffar’s words had consequences. The death toll among Indonesian Christians in the chaos that followed was estimated to be as high as 10,000, with countless thousands more left homeless.2 Journalist Rod Dreher reported in 2002 that Jaffar Umar Thalib’s jihadist group, Laskar Jihad, had also “forcibly converted thousands more, and demolished hundreds of churches.”3 What happened in Indonesia was treated by the international press as an isolated incident. In fact, however, the violent jihad there was part of the ongoing persecution of Christians by Muslims throughout the Islamic world. This violence, reminiscent of barbarous religious conflicts of seven 2 3 hundred years ago, is the dirty little secret of contemporary Boulos’ parish had to denounce the mildly critical remarks religion.

Refugee Review Tribunal AUSTRALIA RRT RESEARCH RESPONSE Research Response Number: CHN32603 Country: China Date: 3 December 2007 Keywords: CHN32603 - China – Guangxi – Catholics – House Churches - Vatican This response was prepared by the Research & Information Services Section of the Refugee Review Tribunal (RRT) after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the RRT within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. This research response may not, under any circumstance, be cited in a decision or any other document. Anyone wishing to use this information may only cite the primary source material contained herein. Questions 1. How are Catholics treated in Guangxi? Please provide information on Catholic house churches. 2. I understand progress has been made in terms of relations between the Chinese government and the Vatican. Could you please provide an overview and update on that? RESPONSE 1. How are Catholics treated in Guangxi? Please provide information on Catholic house churches. Limited information was found regarding the treatment of Catholics in the Guangxi province. In October 2007 China Aid reported that Catholics priests who publicly distributed a letter from the Pope in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, were forced to attend political propaganda sessions. A 2003 article by Agence-France Presse reports on a police crackdown on “illegal religious organisations” in Xilin, a south eastern town in Guangxi and the detention of three individuals with Bibles without trial. However, no further recent information was found in the sources consulted regarding the situation for Catholics in Guangxi.

  • Executive Pay: Over the Top?
Executive Pay: Over the Top? ZENIT News Agency – Rome, Italy May 7, 2005 Debate Continues over Lavish Salaries NEW YORK, MAY 7, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Salary levels for chief executives at many large companies continue to raise question marks over the correct way to determine compensation. In the United States, firms have been filing their data for 2004. At 179 large companies that did not change their chief executive last year, salaries for the chief executive officer rose an average of 12% on the previous year, the New York Times reported April 3. The Times commented that the issue of remuneration for company leaders has become more sensitive in recent times given that shareholders are still trying to recover losses following the stock market drop after 2000. In the face of criticism, companies are limiting some aspects of salaries, and there are increasing efforts to link salaries to company performance. For example, John Alm, who took over as chief executive at Coca-Cola in January 2004, will receive shares in the company, but it is conditional on targets set for an increase in the firm's stock prices. Questions persist over matters such as payments for retiring CEOs. The New York Times gave the example of Lockheed Martin chief executive Vance Coffman, who retired last August with a lump-sum payment of $31.5 million. Other executives will receive lavish pensions for as long as they live. For example, Henry McKinnell Jr., chairman and chief executive of Pfizer, will be paid about $6.5 million a year after he retires, and Lee Raymond, Exxon Mobil's chief executive, will receive $5.9 million a year.

He couldn't have killed six million [Jews]. It couldn't have been more than four million. Opus Dei is also accused of elitism , of targeting "the intellectual elite, the well-to-do, and the socially prominent. Sociologists Peter Berger and Samuel Huntington suggest that Opus Dei is involved in "a deliberate attempt to construct an alternative modernity," one that engages modern culture while at the same time is resolutely loyal to Catholic traditions. In her book on Opus Dei, Maggy Whitehouse , a non-Catholic journalist, argues that the relative autonomy of each director and center has resulted in mistakes at the local level. She recommends greater consistency and transparency for Opus Dei, which she sees as having learned the lesson of greater openness when it faced the issues raised by The Da Vinci Code and other critics.
