Not only were the numbers reduced but there were only two new species added to the Channel Islands list from Guernsey. The following is a summary of the moths and butterflies recorded in the Bailiwick of Guernsey during 2012. The summary includes both light trap records and sightings by myself together with all other records passed on to me by other recorders. In particular I would like to thank Trevor Bourgaize, Jane Cleal, Peter Costen, Mark Lawlor, and Wayne Turner. I have also included records from the Rothamsted trap and would like to express my thanks to the staff at Plant Health Services for continuing to set and empty the trap. Alderney continues to be extremely well recorded by David Wedd and a complete summary for both the micro and macro moths can be found on the Alderney Record Centre web site and I see no point in duplicating this information. We were not lucky enough to have any visiting lepidopterists and so the few records we did receive from Sark were made by locals making a day visit. As we are now getting so few records from the other islands in the Bailiwick I have omitted the “Guernsey’ heading under each species but have added ‘Sark’ where casual records have been received. The butterfly recorders continue to provide records and I would particularly like to thank Ian Hall, Chris de la Mare and Andy Smith for their excellent work as well as all the birdwatchers who log their records on the Guernsey Birds web site. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has taken the trouble to pass on their records. In this rapidly changing world it is only by keeping good records that we can monitor changes. Where monthly counts are given for species these are not necessarily exact totals but are intended to give a good indication of flight times and/or relative monthly abundance and refer to Guernsey records only. The order and species numbers used in the summary are as used by J. D. Bradley in 'Checklist of Lepidoptera Recorded from the British Isles' published in 1998 and incorporating subsequent updated nomenclature published in various journals. Taxanomic changes have taken place since Bradley and Fletcher originally assigned each species an identifying number but, for ease of reference, I have kept the list in strict numerical order. The only two species added to the island lists were as follows:- New Channel Islands Records:- 0330 Phyllonorycter cerascicolella (H.-S.) 0407 Argyresthia dilectella (Zell.) 1 Moths and Butterflies of Guernsey 2012 List of Contributors:- Margaret Austin (MA) Rich Austin (RA) Tony Bisson (AJB) Terry Brokenshire (TB) Trevor Bourgaize (TJB) Kevin Childs (KC) Jane Cleal (JC) Peter Costen (PC) Tim Earl (TDCE) Vic Froome (VF) Mark Guppy (MAG) Ian Hall (IH) Tracy Henry (TH) Jamie Hooper (JH) Carole Kinnersley (CK) Mark Lawlor (MPL) Suzi Macdougall (SM) Chris de la Mare (CDLM) Bob Murphy (RJM) Nigel Pletts (NP) Gary Prince (GP) Andrew Smith (AS) Mary Simmons (MCS) Liz Thomson (LT) Wayne Turner (WRT) Brief description of light trapping sites in Guernsey:- St. John, St Peter Port A small urban garden close to the east coast. (Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae) Ignác Richter Abstract. Present article brings information about new findings of case–bearing moths (Lepidoptera: Coleophoridae) from the Balkan Peninsula. Several species of the genus Coleophora were recorded for the first time for some of the Balkan countries. Coleophora herniariae, C. daglarica and C. albipennella are recorded as new for the fauna of Europe. The description Coleophora vardarella Richter, sp. nov., from Macedonia is given. Keywords. Lepidoptera, Coleophoridae, Coleophora vardarella sp. nov., Coleophora herniariae, Coleophora daglarica, Coleophora albipennella, Macedonia, the Balkan Peninsula. Author’s address. Ignác Richter | Malá Čausa 289, SK–971 01, Slovakia E-mail: [email protected] Introduction Intensive faunistic research of small moths (“Microlepidoptera”) of the Balkan Peninsula continues for several decades already and lasts until the recent times. The family Coleophoridae Bruand, 1850 belongs to the less known moths of the Balkans, therefore our focus has been oriented towards this large Lepidoptera family. Faunistic and systematic studies of this moth group in the Balkans resulted in interesting findings. One of the most important recent works about the genera Coleophora Hübner, 1822 and Goniodoma Zeller, 1849 of the Balkan Peninsula is the contribution of Richter & Pastorális (2015). Results of surveys conducted by seni- or author, executed in the years 2010–2014 at different sites of Croatia, Montene- gro, Macedonia, and Bulgaria were presented.

Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe.

Together with a small party of entomologists from N.E. I.ancashire. invited to eollect at light near the shore at Formby, I experienced the somewhat overwhelming enthrisiasm and hospitality extended to all at “ Warren Mount” . Fed, feted, and equipped, we were taken by cars to the shore, sheets were laid down in front of the headlights, and a memorable night ensued. The night was dark and warm, the moths arrived in great numbers and, true to the Fraser tradition, work did not cease until a few minutes before the last train left Formby, when a hurried dash to the station deposited a happy party of entomologists on the first stage of the journey home. The next meeting was long delayed. The following week-end saw the black-out in force, and it was not until 1946 that T found the Frasens, still enthusiastic, establishing the Eaven Society.

Copenhagen, Denmark 1999. ISSN 0013-8851. During an ongoing fannistic survey o n the Faroe Is! es eight previously unknown species of moths were recorded in 1997: the two casebearer moths Coleophora glaucicolella Wood and C. versurella Zeller, the tortricid Acleris sparsana Den. & Schiff., the pyralid Udea lutealis Hh., the pterophorid Stcnoptil:ia bipunctidactylaScop. and the noctuids Amphipoea lucens Frr., A. erinanensis Burr.& Pierce, and Xestia c nigrum L. With regard to their fauna! status C.glaucicolella, A.sparsana and S. bi jmnctidactyla probably rep re sent overloaked resident species, wh ile C. versurella is considered a native descendan t from an e arlier invasion in August 1996. U. lutea lis, A. lucens and A. erinanensis apparently represent migrants from the adjacent British and Irish areas, while X.c-nigrum is considered avagrant from Central Europe. Due to its similaritywith Wes t Scottish specimens, the Faroese Amphipoea lucens probably originated from a local population in that area from where sim ilar genital features to A.fucosa are reported. I kraft af denne isolerede beliggenhed og de naturligt forekommende plantesamfunds få arter har den færøske sommerfuglefauna hidtil været anset for meget artsfattig.
