Wer die Zeitungen liest, kann es sicher nicht verpasst haben: in Dresden wird seit Oktober 2014 wöchentlich gegen den Islam und die Islamisierung Deutschlands und Europa demonstriert. Diese Protestbewegung nennt sich “Patriotische Europäer gegen die Islamisierung des Abendlandes”, kurz Pegida. Vor einem Jahr war alles noch ruhig in Dresden. Die Teilnehmerzahl der Demonstrationen wuchs aber schnell. Anfangs war die Teilnehmeranzahl noch relativ gering. Am 3. November lag sie auf ca. 1000. Am 8. Dezember lag sie schon auf 10.000, am 12. Januar sogar auf 25.000.1 Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich damit, wie die deutsche Zeitung Die Zeit in dem Zeitraum von Dezember 2014 bis Ende April 2015 über Pegida geschrieben hat. Die Zeit ist eine deutsche Wochenzeitung, die sich selbst als liberal bezeichnet. -

Right Livelihood Award 40th Anniversary Bangkok Conference Education for Right Livelihood: Connecting Activism and Academia Conference and Public Forum Friday, 21 February 2020 Right Livelihood Award Laureates’ Profiles BASSEY, Nnimmo (Nigeria): Environment/oil, received the Right Livelihood Award in 2010. Nnimmo Bassey is a Nigerian architect, environmental activist, author and poet. Bassey started his work on human rights issues in the 1980s as a member of the Board of Directors of Nigeria’s Civil Liberties Organisation. In 1993, he co-founded Environmental Rights Action (ERA), also known as Friends of the Earth Nigeria, an advocacy NGO that deals with environmental human rights issues in the country. Bassey was ERA’s Executive Director for two decades and is still the chair of its Management Board. Bassey’s primary campaigning focuses on oil and the enormous damage inflicted on Nigerian communities and neighbouring countries where oil is extracted (such as Angola, Cameroon, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Sudan). He works on supporting a broad movement across sub-Saharan African countries where new finds of oil are being made. Bassey is also central to the Right Livelihood College campus at The University of Port Harcourt in Nigeria. 1 FERNANDO, Basil; Asian Human Rights Commission (Hong Kong): Human rights, social action, received the Right Livelihood Award in 2014. Basil Fernando is an activist, author and poet. He has been active in human rights and social action issues ever since his youth. He practised law from 1980 to 1989 at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, with an emphasis on criminal law, employment law and human rights law. -

FACTSHEET Egypt – SEKEM Initiative (1977) IN BRIEF The SEKEM Initiative uses biodynamic agricultural methods to revitalize desert land and develop agricultural business in Egypt. The SEKEM mission entails a holistic approach focusing on agricultural production on farms, sustainable ecological ma- nagement, and enabling knowledge transfer, education and conscious consumption. Approximately 684 hectares of desert land have been reclaimed, of which 100% is operated by biodynamic agriculture methods; 477 farmers have been trained on bio- dynamic agriculture methods and registered under the Egyptian Biodynamic Associa- tion (EBDA). Today SEKEM is a leading social business worldwide overarching a group of companies and NGOs. The practice is transferable and since 2007, SEKEM has been working to create three new farms, with all infrastructure for sustainable development as in Belbeis. Pressemitteilung – Mit der Bitte um Veröffentlichung – Streichergipfel 2021: Das Rheingau Musik Festival präsentiert das Chamber Orchestra of Europe mit der Nachwuchselite der Kronberg Academy Oestrich-Winkel/Kronberg, 8.4.2021 – Die beiden großen Kulturinstitutionen der Rhein-Main- Region, das Rheingau Musik Festival als Veranstalter und die Kronberg Academy als Ausbildungsstätte, legen in diesem Sommer den Grundstein zu einer auf mehrere Jahre ausgelegten Kooperation. In sechs Konzerten wird das Chamber Orchestra of Europe am letzten Juli-Wochenende sein lang erwartetes Debüt beim Rheingau Musik Festival feiern und bei diesen Konzerten mit zehn jungen Solistinnen und Solisten der Kronberg Academy gemeinsam musizieren. An drei Tagen widmen sich je zwei Konzerte einer musikalischen Epoche: Die zwei Konzerte an Tag 1 nehmen die Epoche des Barock näher in den Blick, die zwei Konzerte am Folgetag Werke der Klassik und die letzten beiden Konzerte das romantische Repertoire. In diesen herausfordernden Zeiten möchte das Rheingau Musik Festival die Nachwuchsförderung auf einer breiteren Ebene sicherstellen und in die Zukunft führen. Gemeinsam können das Festival und die Kronberg Academy den jungen, aufstrebenden Musikerinnen und Musikern eine breitere Karriereentwicklung ermöglichen, von der Ausbildung in Kronberg über weitere nachhaltigere und vielfältige Auftrittsmöglichkeiten beim Rheingau Musik Festival und zusätzlichen Saisonveranstaltern der Region. The Parliament’s unequivocal call for a ban on cyanide mining is due to the concern of our elected representatives to protect Europe's shared water resources, its biodiversity, and the health and livelihoods of its citizens. Our hope is that as Commissioner for the Environment you might share these concerns. However your communications to members of the European Parliamenti and to environmental groupsii, fail to justify your refusal to take action in line with the EP resolution, and to assess the gaps in the implementation of existing legislation. We are also seriously concerned about the non-transparent process of consultations that the European Commission undertook with representatives of the mining industryiii, while the request for participation of environmental groups and local communities were ignored. We remind you that the European Commission is both legally and morally obliged to protect the public interest and to promote transparency, democracy and citizens’ participation in decision-making. -

After two extensions, his contract will now run until the end of the 2019-2020 season. His successful work in Pittsburgh is captured on CD by the Japanese label Exton. So far, Mahler's Symphonies Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 5, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and Richard Strauss' Ein Heldenleben have been released to critical acclaim. The recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 won an ICMA 2012 Award. With great success, Honeck and his orchestra present themselves regularly to the European audience. Since 2010, annual tour performances have led them to numerous European music capitals and major music festivals, amongst them Rheingau Musik Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Beethovenfest Bonn, Musikfest Berlin, Grafenegg Festival, Lucerne Festival and the BBC Proms. The 2012 tour focused on a week- long residency at the Vienna Musikverein. In August and September 2013, concerts took place in Grafenegg, Berlin, Bucharest, Paris, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Lucerne and Bonn. Cédric Pescia | piano Biography | January 2021 Cédric Pescia, born in Lausanne, studied with Christian Favre in Lausanne, later with Dominique Merlet in Geneva and with Klaus Hellwig in Berlin. He continued his education at the “International Piano Academy” at Lake Como (Italy) as student of Dimitri Bashkirov, Leon Fleisher, William Grant Naboré, Menahem Pressler, Andreas Staier and Fou Ts’ong. Furthermore the young pianist got impulses from Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Daniel Barenboim, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Ivan Klánsky, Christian Zacharias, and the Alban Berg Quartet. In 2002, he won one of the most prestigious competitions of the world, the Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition” in Salt Lake City, in which more than 500 pianists from 40 countries took part. In 2007, Cédric Pescia was honoured with the Prix Musique de la Fondation Vaudoise pour la culture. He was also a prize-winner at the Bourse de la Fondation Leenaards in Lausanne. Concert tours have taken him throughout Europe, China, South America, North Africa and in the USA. After presenting the theoretical basis for this report, which builds on an earlier project’s publication (Doomernik & Ardon 2018) and is enriched by the empirical findings of the CEASEVAL research that connects the relevance of a local perspective with an analysis and review of alternative forms of shaping the Common European Asylum System. To transform the CEAS into a sustainable and equitable common asylum and migration framework this report points towards three possible fundamental changes that might make the CEAS more sustainable and foster equity. -

A Call to Protect Food Systems from Genetic Extinction Technology: The Global Food and Agriculture Movement Says NO to Release of Gene Drives Gene drives are new tools that force genetically engineered traits through entire populations of insects, plants, animals and other organisms. This invasive technology represents a deliberate attempt to create a new form of genetic pollution. Gene Drives may drive species to extinction and undermine sustainable and equitable food and agriculture. Gene drives threaten natural systems. If released experimentally into the environment they may spread engineered genes uncontrollably through wild and domesticated species. This could alter ecological systems and food webs, harm biodiversity and eradicate beneficial organisms such as pollinators. Gene drives could disrupt lands, waters, food and fiber economies and harm Indigenous and peasant agroecological practices and cultures. Gene drives are being developed for use in agriculture. If applied, they may make farms even more genetically uniform and foreclose farmers’ rights, as enshrined, among others, in the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and other People Working in Rural Areas. Use of gene drives may further entrench a system of genetically-engineered industrial agriculture, extend agro-toxin use and concentrate corporate control over global food systems, undermining the food sovereignty of farmers, food workers and consumers. Gene drives hinder the realization of human rights including rights to healthy, ecologically-produced and culturally appropriate food and nutrition. We, the undersigned, call for a global moratorium on any release of engineered gene drives. This moratorium is necessary to affirm the precautionary principle, which is enshrined in international law, and to protect life on Earth as well as our food supply. -

A Festival of Artistic Research (Graz, 5–7 October 2017) Artistic research is currently a much-talked about and highly innovative field of know- ledge creation which combines artistic with academic practice. One of its central features is ambitious artistic experiments exploring musical and other questions, systematically bringing them into dialogue with reflection, analysis and other academic approaches. ARTikulationen, a two-and-a-half day festival of artistic research that has been running under that name since 2016, organised by the Artistic Doctoral School (KWDS) of the Uni- versity of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG), expands the pioneering format deve- loped by Ulf Bästlein and Wolfgang Hattinger in 2010, in which the particular moment of artistic research – namely audible results, which come about through a dynamic between art and scholarship that is rooted in methodology – becomes something the audience can understand and experience. In Alfred Brendel, Georg Friedrich Haas and George Lewis, the festival brings three world- famous and influential personalities and thinkers from the world of music to Graz as key- note speakers. George Lewis will combine his lecture with a version of his piece for soloist and interactive grand piano. The presentations at ARTikulationen encompass many different formats such as keynotes, lecture recitals, guest talks, poster presentations and a round table on practices in artistic research.
