All the competitions were hard fought in both seniors and juniors. Congratulations to all the Premiership winning teams and all the individual trophy winners. The running of our association is not possible without the tireless efforts of the Senior Management Committee and I would like to thank the Executive Committee and all the club representatives for their time. Unfortunately not all clubs understand the importance of sending a representative to our monthly meetings and as in previous seasons, these clubs are the ones we have problems with. Could all the clubs look seriously at this situation and have a representative at all the SMC meetings next season. Again this year I received tremendous support from the Executive and pay particular tribute to Bill Bartley as Vice President (Seniors) and Chairperson of the Grading Committee, Tania Coull as Vice President (Juniors) and Representative Secretary, Peter Harris for his sterling work as Secretary, John Hopper as Association Treasurer and Alan Smith as Recorder and looking after our web site. Thanks also to Mark Van der Reyden for his efforts organising the draw. Well done to all our juniors selected in the Emerging Blues sides and to those who were selected to try out. Congratulations to all our representative players for the way they conducted themselves and their efforts during the season. Unfortunately our sides were not as successful as previous years and the Executive was asked for suggestions on improving this situation. Our junior competitions require an overhaul, especially the under 10s, and hopefully this can be completed before the start of next season. Peter Harris and I spent an evening with Andrew Sadleir to discuss options to improve our standings and improve junior cricket in our district. A proposal was produced and distributed to all the clubs, with a request for suggestions and opinions. It was a chance to make changes to bring our district back into line with the majority of districts we compete against. Unfortunately only two clubs in the district felt obliged to consider the proposal and send in any opinions. Hawkesbury Grade Club and Hawkesbury Sports Council must also be thanked for allowing us to use Bensons Lane again for our Finals as this is the perfect complex to host them. Appreciation also to the Hawkesbury District Umpires Association for the thankless job they do every Saturday and Sunday. I would especially like to thank Peter Harris for his valued contribution and support over the past years as he is retiring at the AGM due to excessive work commitments. I have valued his friendship and advice during his tenure. I also will be retiring from the committee at this years AGM as work commitments are increasingly encroaching upon the time I have available to perform my duties as President. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who I have worked with over the past 10 years and forgive me if I have omitted anyone but I am suffering from old-timers lately. I wish all the best to Hawkesbury District and will watch its progress closely over the coming years with enthusiasm. Yours in cricket. Peter Seagrott President 5 111th Annual Report It is pleasure that I present the 111th Annual Report of the Hawkesbury Cricket Association Incorporated. The season under review saw 44 senior and 34 junior sides commence the season. The steady number of players is encouraging for the growth of cricket in the Hawkesbury. Under 10 Average Cricket The HDCA has now completed its 4th season of averages cricket for the Under 10’s. Whilst the initiatives behind this concept have held secure, the question is now being asked if that the averages cricket prepare players for the rigors of district cricket and commences the skills range required to compete and specialize in specific aspects of the game. A review of the rules of Under 10’s cricket is currently being undertaken. Cap Presentations During the season, representative players were presented with their Hawkesbury caps and playing gear at special ceremonies. The HDCA thanks Hawkesbury Cricket Club for making several grade players available to attend these events. First Grade Freeman’s Reach won the First grade competition, repeating last year’s effort; however the competion was combined between 1st and 2nd grade teams for the first time. Publicity Our sincere thanks to all the Staff at the Hawkesbury Gazette for their great coverage of cricket in the Hawkesbury. A special mention to the sports editor Brendon Rhodes for his fantastic efforts in collating all the information every week and for participating as a player, competing each week for his adopted club of North Richmond. Refurbishment of trophies. As a commitment to our heritage The HDCA is continuing on a program of refurbishing of perpetual trophies. This task is ongoing and our thanks are extended to Richmond trophies for their expertise and skill in ensuring that this process is actioned in a professional manner. Jack Chegwyn MBE The Chegwyn Medal for the First grade best and fairest player has been held over due to the combining of first and second grade sides in season 2008 - 9 Appreciation Sincere thanks are passed on to the following people not mentioned elsewhere

THE HAMPSHIRE CRICKET SOCIETY Patrons: John Woodcock Shaun Udal James Tomlinson NEWSLETTER No. 371 – MARCH 2018 (2) Wednesday 28 March 2018 – Meeting The society extends a warm welcome to this evening’s speaker, Adrian Aymes, on his return to the Society. He first addressed members in September 2000, during his benefit year. ADRIAN NIGEL AYMES was born in Southampton on 4 June 1964, and attended Bellemoor School. He came late to first-class cricket. He joined the Hampshire staff when 21 years of age in 1986 but did not gain a regular place until he finally displaced Bob Parks some four years later. He gave notice of what was to follow on his first-class debut against Surrey at The Oval in 1987. With Hampshire in trouble, he battled to 58 not out. Subsequently, no player in the first-class game during the 1990s sold his wicket more dearly. He was undefeated in a high proportion of his innings, which spoke volumes for his technique, temperament and sheer cussedness. With Robin Smith, he became the beating heart and consciousness of the Hampshire batting. If he took root and dug in, Hampshire were generally assured of a competitive total. All of his eight centuries were made in adversity. Of all Hampshire’s wicket-keepers, only his successor, Nic Pothas, has a higher batting average. He was a passionately proud professional, and never gave less than his best. He was fortunate to keep wicket to two of the genuinely great bowlers in the history of the game. At the start of his career, he stood back to the incomparable Malcolm Marshall; latterly, he kept to the unique Shane Warne.

  • 366 – November 2017
THE HAMPSHIRE CRICKET SOCIETY Patrons: John Woodcock Shaun Udal NEWSLETTER NO. 366 – NOVEMBER 2017 MEETINGS Wednesday 22 November 2017 - Meeting Our speaker this afternoon, Alan Butcher, has spent a lifetime in the game. Members will recall him as one of the most prolific of county batsmen over a period of 20 years. He then extended his cricket career as a coach. He played his first matches for Surrey as a left-arm medium-pace bowler and in only his third game, in July 1972, he left his mark on Surrey’s match with Hampshire at Guildford. In the first innings, he took six for 48. Five of those wickets were ones to savour: Richards, Greenidge, Roy Marshall, Sainsbury and Jesty. The last was Bob Herman. Those figures were to remain the best of his career. By 1975, he was opening the innings on occasions, and was awarded his county cap. He was chosen for a test trial in 1976 and scored one thousand runs in a season for the first time in 1979; he repeated the feat in every season thereafter, apart from 1986, until 1991. He was an enterprising left-handed batsman who possessed a full range of strokes. He was strong off the back foot and a fine player of fast bowling. His back foot play would undoubtedly have been influenced by his five years in Australia, where he was selected for South Australia Under-15s. After his consistent performances in 1979, he was selected for the final test against India at The Oval. He scored 14 and 20, but, in the eyes of many, he was most unfortunate not to be picked again.
