(Garden City College) 5 2009-2010 Outlook Golden Eagles look to build upon CSI Basketball Tradition Tradition, Pride, Hutch - three words often used in conversation regarding the winningest junior college basketball program in the nation. Since the beginning of Golden Eagle basketball, CSI teams are 1239-232 with a winning percentage of .842. No one else is even close. CSI has won 25 Region 18 Championships and made the trip back to Hutchinson, Kansas, 20 times, winning a national championship twice. No one understands the storied history of CSI basketball more than second-year head coach Steve Gosar and this year’s Golden Eagle basketball squad. The 2009-2010 College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team hopes it’s legacy only adds to richness of the Golden Eagle tradition. Gosar has assembled a squad that has a little bit of everything - returners, transfers and freshmen newcomers. “I’m very excited about the potential of this year’s team,” Gosar said. “Once all the pieces start fitting together, we should be very good.” Golden Eagle sophomore Charles Odum will give CSI versatility at the guard position. He will be able to play the point or the 2-guard spot. Joining him will be DJ Stennis (5-9 guard) and Pierre Jackson (5-9 guard). Both give the Golden Eagles speed and depth. In addition to Odum at the 2-guard position, CSI can look to sophomore transfer 6-2 Antonio Owens, returner Byago Diouf, 6-3 freshman Keon Pledger and 6-0 redshirt freshman Christian Parker. 6 2009-2010 Outlook “I like our depth in the guard position,” Gosar said. “They can all score the ball and really defend.” Two of the most exciting and dynamic players on the team are redshirt freshmen Carrick Felix and Josten Thomas. They can jump, shoot from the outside and take the ball to the hoop. They are joined by forward freshman Brandon Givens, who also plays the guard/forward position. “Carrick and Josten are so athletic and talented,” Gosar said. “We can

p.1 STANFORD UNIVERSITY PROJECT: Bob Murphy Interviews INTERVIEWEE: Mike Montgomery Murphy: [0:01] Hello again, everybody, and welcome once again to the Stanford Sports History Book. Visiting this time with Coach Mike Montgomery, who has been with Stanford for 17 years. And he has coached overall for 25 years and he's won over 500 hundred games. And folks, that add up to 20 wins a season, both at The University of Montana and at Stanford. A fabulous record with all kind of awards. Coach, I know you're trying to be humble, but it isn't easy. [laughter] Montgomery: [0:32] It is easy, it's not that hard to be humble. This is not rocket science, this is just coaching basketball. I think if you get yourself in a situation with good kids and you have good people working for you, you can have success. I think if somebody were looking for a blueprint as to why I've been successful, it's been because I've had good people around me that have been hard workers, most of whom have gone on and become head coaches in their own right. [1:04] We've had great kids. I mean, obviously, at Stanford we get kids that are exceptional, but even at Montana I had kids that really enjoyed playing basketball, really wanted to win. We tried to recruit kids there that being at Montana was important. While a lot of the guys in the Big Sky would recruit kids from junior college, players from California that really didn't care at all where they were, they just wanted to play basketball.
