Zonta Club of the Spearfish Area 5th Grade Business Fair It is Never to Early to Learn What a Chamber Is… As many of you know, at Spearfish Creekside Elementary the 5th grade class hosts a Business Fair each spring. These aspiring entrepreneurs create a business plan and a product to sell. For years, their business plan has included a budget line for ‘Chamber Membership’. This year we Melissa Barth, IOM gave each 5th grade student a ‘member Chamber Executive decal’. And Mrs. Gillespie’s 5th Grade Director class walked to the Chamber for a pres- entation and tour prior to the Business Fair. The students and the chamber staff greatly enjoyed the experience. We even had a couple of our business member’s children in the class and boy were they proud to find their parents information displayed! The purpose for going to the conference was to promote the Black Hills as a strategic location for businesses wanting to provide same-day services to oil & gas companies cur- rently operating in Western North Dakota. At the present time, there are 52 companies in South Dakota which provide supply chain services to the energy related indus- tries. Many of these businesses are situated in the Black Hills, including H2E, an environmental consulting company located here in Spearfish. This is the 2nd year Spearfish has attended the conference to help market the region to over 400 exhibitors and 3,500 atten- dees.
