There was a lot of interest in the bike as I was the only Ducati owner in the area. All my friends at the time either had CB72 or CB160 . The only breakdown I had on it was when the top camshaft nut came moose and chewed itself up (I still have the nut). Timing went out and I broke down 20 miles from home. Nicer, quieter sound. Also changed front mudguard. The bike was reliable while I owned it apart from lights (very dim) and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t get the kick-start to work, so bum-starting was the order of the day.

Dear Jilly,

My son Andrew decided to treat the old man to a track day for fathers day, he said it would make up for all the others he had forgotten. Halfway into the first session I wondered if it really was a present or revenge for all the times I had sent him to bed early for being a bad lad. The ride to Cadwell had been a little unpleasant due to the rain and fog, thankfully half an hour after we arrived the sun came out and stayed out for what was to be one of my best days on a bike ever. After the briefing and scrutineering we set of on the warm up lap, Andrew was on his 999 whilst I was on my 907. I have to admit to being a little nervous at first but I soon got into it. Being the oldest and slowest rider on the oldest slowest bike did not matter one little bit, I had a great day! Sadly for Andrew his day ended after the third session when his 999 broke down with what turned out to be a blown fuse, it was taken to Ducati Leeds who not being able to diagnose the cause of the fault decided to return the bike with a handful of spare fuses in case it happened again& It d id! At the Rockingham Raceway the following Sunday the 999 decided to call it a day early again and was last seen disappearing into the sunset on the back of a RAC trailer (again), shortly to be replaced by a Yamaha R1. I think I would have kept the 999 and replaced the dealer. Finally, to all of you who think you might be to old or slow to enjoy a track day, your not, just do it!
