The article also stated that he was an avid model railroader. Frederick photographed trains and also purchased photographs from others. He acquired many images of Pennsylvania Railroad property; which at the time was the largest (by traffic and revenue) railroad in the U.S.A. The Polk City Directories list him as an engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1964 and 1965. These same directories also list him as residing at the same address on the southeast side of Metropolitan Indianapolis in 1997.

    Pennnsylvania Intercity Passenger and Freight Rail Plan Appendix 9 Freight Rail Projects SEPTEMBER 2010 Appendix 9 Freight Rail Projects In an effort to identify the capital needs of the freight industry in Pennsylvania, PennDOT conducted an extensive outreach initiative, in coordination with the Keystone State Railroad Association, to secure input from all 65 operating railroads within the Pennsylvania freight rail network. This outreach effort included solicitation for planned capital projects at rail-related conferences and e-mail correspondence, as well as follow-up telephone calls during July and August 2010. The project submissions provided in the following table characterize the full extent of known planned capital investments for railroad infrastructure across Pennsylvania as of August 2010. The table is organized alphabetically by railroad and lists projects by implementation timeframe (near-term: 1-3 years, mid-term: 3-5, and long-term: more than 5 years). Brief project descriptions, location, and estimated costs are also included. Project categories were contributed by the Keystone State Railroad Association. PennDOT will also evaluate all submitted projects against the goals and objectives outlined in the Pennsylvania Intercity Passenger and Freight Rail Plan to assist the Department in making future funding decisions. The primary objective of this study was to establish a reliable database of Pennsylvania SLRR bridges and to develop a risk-based bridge prioritization algorithm. References Photo: Dan Davis Photography Appendix B: Fiscal Year 2015-2020 RTAP and RFAP Grant Awards This page left blank intentionally FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 12, 2016 Thirty-one Rail Projects to Create, Retain 48,000 Jobs with State Investments Harrisburg, PA – More than 48,000 jobs will be created or retained over the next five years due to thirty-one rail projects being made possible by two PennDOT-managed grant programs. “Pennsylvania has the most railroads in the country and these make up a vital component of our economic and transportation activities,” said PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards. “These investments underscore our role in supporting jobs and economies across the state.” The State Transportation Commission (STC) voted today to approve $36 million for 15 projects through the Rail Transportation Assistance Program (RTAP) and 16 projects through the Rail Freight Assistance Program (RFAP). RTAP is a capital budget grant program funded with bonds and RFAP is underwritten through the new Multimodal Fund, created by Act 89.     History of STERA’s Abatement Process The Southern Tier Extension is a 145-mile long mainline railroad that connects Corry, Pennsylvania to Hornell, New York. It passes through Jamestown, Falconer, Randolph, Salamanca, Olean, Cuba, Friendship, Wellsville, and Alfred Station, and to the west, extends into Pennsylvania to Corry PA. Once a part of the Eire Lackawanna system, the Southern Tier Extension once was a 75 mile-per-hour mainline freight and passenger line. The economy of southwestern New York State was in large part developed because of its rail system, of which the line which now is the Southern Tier Extension was a primary part. The Southern Tier West Regional Planning & Development Board (STW) has been working on issues surrounding the Southern Tier Extension railroad line since the mid 1980’s. In the 1980’s, Conrail, which owned all of the line between Corry PA and Hornell NY, pretty much did not use any of the line (i.e., it was “dormant”), with the exception of the segment from Jamestown to Olean, which by the mid-1990’s, because of Conrail’s attitude toward serving small volume customers on this line, served two customers (Agway and Monofrax in Falconer) totaling 75 carloads per year. Conrail’s negative attitude toward the line derived from the fact that it had a parallel east-west line in Pennsylvania that made the Southern Tier Extension line redundant. Conrail also did not like the fact that it paid over $1 million in real estate taxes on the Southern Tier Extension line to local taxing jurisdictions in New York State (i.e., counties, cities, towns, villages, and school districts).
