In recent years ecology has been called upon to include the studies of how humans interrelate with ecological processes, within ecosystems. Although humans are part of the natural ecosystem when we speak of human ecology, the relationships between humanity and the t environment, i is helpful to think of the ‘environment’ as the social system. What are the relationships and interactions within this ecosystem? What are the relationships and interactions between the social system and ecological environment (this includes air, soil, water, physical living and nonliving structures)? How do the interactions systems, between affect the global ecosystem? The most fundamental means we have as a society in transforming human ecology is through modeling and designing in our social environment those conditions that will influence sustainable interactions and relationships within the global ecological system. -

We contrast ten types of management plans to achieve maximum sustainable yields (MSY) from multiple stocks and compare their effectiveness based on a management strategy evalua- tion (MSE) that uses complex food webs in its operating model. Plans that target specific stock sizes (BMSY) consistently led to higher yields than plans targeting spe- cific fishing pressures (FMSY). A new self-optimising control rule, introduced here arXiv:1412.0199v6 [q-bio.PE] 31 May 2016 for its robustness to structural instability, led to intermediate yields. Most plans outperformed single-species management plans with pressure targets set without considering multispecies interactions. However, more refined plans to \maximise the yield from each stock separately", in the sense of a Nash equilibrium, produced total yields comparable to plans aiming to maximise total harvested biomass, and were more robust to structural instability. Our analyses highlight trade-offs between yields, amenability to negotiations, pressures on biodiversity, and continuity with current approaches in the European context. -

The excessive amount of groundwater ex- tracted by irrigation farming has significantly contributed to this problem. The objective of this paper is to analyse the effect of changes in ground- water price over the allocation of different production inputs. I model the technology of producers facing groundwater overdraft through a Translog cost function and using a combination of multiple micro-data sources. My results show that groundwater demand is inelastic, -0.54. Moreover, these results also show that both labour and fertiliser can act as substitutes for groundwater, further reacting to changes in groundwater price. COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLAN 2010 UPDATE CITY OF SPRINGDALE, ARKANSAS The COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLAN is the City’s official guide for future development of the City. It translates values into a scheme that describes, how, why, when and where to build, rebuild or preserve the community. The COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLAN covers a period greater than one year but does not have a definite time limit. In the past the Land Use Plan was considered to be a snapshot or frozen image of what the City would look like twenty, thirty or forty years later, but there was little guidance as to how to get there. This Comprehensive Land Use Plan expresses current goals and policies that will shape the future, rather than show a rigid image of the future itself. The COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLAN covers the entire city and its established planning area. Arkansas Statues §14-56-413 allows the City to designate the area within the territorial jurisdiction for which it will prepare plans, ordinances and regulations. The COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLAN is a statement of policy that covers such community desires as quality of life, character, and rate of grow and indicates how these desires are to be achieved. The COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLAN is not a zoning ordinance, subdivision regulation, official map, budget or capital improvement program. It is a guide to the preparation and the carrying out of the components of the planning process. The COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLAN is a guide to decision making by the Planning Commission, the City Council and the Mayor. -

The present Special Issue addresses a multiplicity of realities that confirm a deviation from this utopia in the real world, as well as the concerns of researchers. These scholars point to measures that could help lead the damaged environment to a better status. The studies were focused on sustainable use of soils and water, as well as on land use or occupation changes that can negatively affect the quality of those resources. Some other studies attempt to assess (un)sustainability in specific regions through holistic approaches, like the land carrying capacity, the green gross domestic product or the eco-security models. Overall, the special issue provides a panoramic view of competing interests for land and the consequences for the environment derived therefrom. Keywords: water resources; soil; land use change; conflicts; environmental degradation; sustainability Competition for land is a worldwide problem affecting developed as well as developing countries, because the economic growth of activity sectors often requires the expansion of occupied land, sometimes to places that overlap different sectors. A list of the dissolved solids in any water is long, but it can be divided into three groups: major constituents, minor constituents, and trace elements (Table 1).
