Callan C.B.S
Callan C.B.S. - The Dunnamaggin Connection From the time Rev. Robert O'Keeffe from Dunnamaggin laid the foundation stone for Callan C.B.S. in 1868, players from the parish had contributed enormously to the success of hurling at the college. In the early years success was scarce this despite producing both fine football and hurling teams. The breakthrough nearly came in the 1940's with Davie Walsh as their most prominent player, but they failed to jump the final hurdle. Inspired on by centenary year and the arrival of Mick McHugh, the Rice Cup, the most prestigious trophy in CBS hurling was won in 1968 with Pat Butler, Kells, Richard Mackey, Rogerstown, Johnny Nolan, Ballytobin, and James Hughes, Dunnamaggin, to the fore. This was a major breakthrough for the school and they went on to capture the U-17 Leinster Kyne Cup the same year. Pat Butler, Kells, and Willie Hughes, Dunnamaggin, were members of this team. In 1971 the earlier under age success was followed by winning the Senior Leinster Colleges "B" title against an Ogie Moran led Gormanstown team. As there was no All-Ireland "B " championship at the time Callan C.B.S. progressed into the semi-final of the "A" championship where they came up against the mighty St. Kieran's in the semi-final. The Callan boys put up a brave show but were beaten in the end. Pat Butler, Kells, Jimmy Dunne, Kells, John Nolan, Ballytobin, James Hughes, Dunnamaggin, and Richie Mackey, Rogerstown, were members of this team. The 1972 team again captured the Leinster Colleges "B" Leinster Final with the same players on board. -

2021 GAA MEDIA GUIDE Treoirleabhar Na Meán 2021
2021 GAA MEDIA GUIDE Treoirleabhar na Meán 2021 @officialgaa 2021 GAA Media Guide - Teachtaireacht ón Uachtaráin Ba mhaith liom fáilte a chur romhaibh go léir ar ais chuig ár gcluichí The last 14 months have come as a challenge to us all and while we have some distance to travel before we can once again look forward to big games with full stadiums, there are green shoots ahead of us. Who could have known in mid-March last year when we took the decision to shut our activities down, that the Covid challenge would still be front and centre as the summer of 2021 approaches? The best of the GAA shone as we grappled with profound changes to our lives and the supports provided by our club and county network to those who needed them most was both heartening and reassuring. Our games when they returned were a welcome tonic. The club championships and all of the activity that preceded them helped breathe life back into communities right across the GAA family. Similarly, in the darkest days of winter the inter-county games provided us with a focal point and a welcome distraction as we grew accustomed to supporting our players and teams from afar. In the coming weeks, the Allianz League games will come thick and fast and the interest and excitement will follow. We have shown flexibility in organising our competitions, most notably in football where again a straight knockout approach will apply. I would like to acknowledge the buy-in from everyone concerned in helping to make both last year and this season work, and I have no doubt that the entertainment value and profile of the games will be as high as ever. -

There are a number of very interesting and informative reports in the booklet and I recommend that you take the time to read them. I have documented below the progress of Kildare teams in 2019. O Byrne Cup: Kildare started their season in St Conleth’s Park on Saturday 16th December where Longford provided the opposition. On a wet and windy day it was Longford who prevailed on a scoreline of 2:14 to 0:14. Next up was a trip to Aughrim where Kildare overcame Wicklow on a scoreline of 2:14 to 2:7 with our goals coming from Chris Byrne & Daniel Flynn. Our third round robin fixture after the Christmas Break saw us travelling to Carlow IT where a late surge saw Kildare winning on scoreline of 1:10 to 0:10. -
