DISNEY CHANNEL Launched in Italy in October 1998, the channel offers kids and families the best Disney products and local production with a 24-hour programming, without commercial breaks. The audience appeal can be seen from Auditel* figures that show that the Disney Channel is the most watched by subscribers, while the Doxa survey ** (winter 2007) confirmed it as the most popular among young pay-TV viewers. A success that is repeated among parents who consider the channel a must have among channels for children, the safest and most enjoyable for the family. A feature of the prime time schedule of the Disney Channel is the Disney Channel Original Movie, specifically produced for the channel's young audience and the whole family, of particular note in this area are "High School Musical" and "High School Musical 2" which have broken all audience, sales and popularity records. During the day the new generation of Disney cartoon series such as "Phineas e Ferb" and classics such as "Kim Possibile" or "American Dragon" alternate with popular series like "Hannah Montana", a worldwide success among very young viewers. Live action and animation, are the main pillars of the Disney Channel, and in recent years there has also been the addition of local productions with such shows as Fiore e Tinelli, Life Bites and the now celebrated sit-com "Quelli dell'intervallo" which has met with enormous worldwide success and given rise to 11 local versions in the USA, Great Britain, France, Spain, Germany, Australia, China, Singapore, Russia, Japan and India. Among the most significant appointments in the coming months will be the previously mentioned cartoon series Phineas e Ferb and the new I famosi 5, the TV films Zack e Cody al Grand Hotel, Hannah Montana and the very new Il mondo di Patty plus Quelli dell'intervallo, its spin-off Fiore e Tinelli and Life Bites for local productions. The youngest viewers, meanwhile, will be treated to pre-school cartoon series such as I Miei amici Tigro e Pooh, Little Einsteins, La casa di Topolino, Bunnytown. And the beginning of the new season will also see the arrival of Camp Rock, a Disney Channel Original Movie starring the Jonas Brothers and the promising young actress Demi Lovato, which is expected to take up the reins from High School Musical. "This agreement," - announced Giorgio Stock, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Walt Disney Television Italia - "is part of the company's strategy of offering an increasingly wide public the possibility of watching and enjoying the quality of our content and the value of the Disney brand." *Auditel (April 07 - April 08) Target 4-14 pay-TV subscribers **Doxa, Junior (Winter 07): Quantitative survey on a representative sample of Italian children between the ages of 5 and 13. • Sound in Flash
CGT 353: Principles of Interactive and Dynamic Media Animation in Flash Introduction: • At it’s most basic, animation is very simple in Flash. • Only control a few variables such as size, position, color, and shape. • Additional elements such as layer, masks, and guides help…., but these are still very simple components…. • It is the infinite combinations and creative applications that allow the enormous number of ideas to present themselves…. • When you use ActionScript to control and add interactivity to these movies, the number of possibilities increases even more… • Although most of you won’t become character animators…we use examples of character animation in this discussion because it is the most complex category of animation. Bit O’ Flash Animation History: • First prominent use was by Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi in the creation of The Goddamn George Liquor Program in 1997 • 1999 – WhirlGirl - first regularly scheduled Flash animated web series on Showtime • 1999 – The VonGhouls • Dot-com era - Icebox, MondoMedia, CampChaos, MediaTrip, Bogbeast and AtomFilms • Adult Cartoons - Queer Duck, Gary the Rat, Happy Tree Friends, JibJab Homestar Runner. Flash Animated TV Series: • 2003 Chilly Beach - Launched on CBC Television, this became one of the first Flash productions to make the move from online "webisodes" to national TV. • 2004 Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends Launched on Cartoon Network. • 2004 Atomic Betty Launched on Cartoon Network in the US. • 2005 The Buzz on Maggie Canceled Disney Channel series that ran for only one season. 2005 Disney's Little Einsteins Multimedia pre-school show, used Flash for all principal character animation in conjunction with video, photo collage, Maya 3-D animation and After Effects.
