The Study was commissioned largely as a result of public concern that the character of the river had changed over the last 30 years. The fundamental concern was with reduced river levels and the general view was that reductions were caused, in great part, by groundwater abstraction for public supply outside the Kennet catchment. The Study was divided into two stages and an Interim Report on the Stage One Study was issued in December 1991. This Report updates the findings of the Stage One Study and presents the findings for both Stage One and Stage Two. Stage One of the Study considered how the four main measures of the character of the catchment viz: ° Groundwater levels ° Surface flow, water level and the upper limit of flow ° Water quality ° Flora and fauna have changed with time.

    View from the Rectory The influence of the Taize community on the church in the September 2016 UK and throughout the world has been pretty remarkable. The monastic community in a small village in Burgundy has never advertised, or recruited, or marketed its style of worship. But all over Britain, and throughout the world, there are churches running Taize services. The focus of the services is on silence, reflection and the meditative weaving together of prayer and music. Taize came from the protestant tradition but from the outset was also deeply committed to religious unity, and the services are such that people of all faiths and of none are welcomed alongside Christians of all denominations In 1940, as another war was beginning, Brother Roger moved to the tiny village of Taizé in France’s Burgundy region. There, during the war years, he sheltered political refugees, especially Jewish people, and began to develop the idea of an ecumenical community in which men from Notice Board many different traditions - Catholic, Orthodox, Protestants - Weddings would live together under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. The focus is on the Avebury landscape of Wiltshire, where over 700 individual megaliths were employed in the construction of ceremonial and funerary monuments. Locally-sourced, little consideration has been given to the process of acquisition and movement of sarsen stones that make up key monuments such as the Avebury henge and its avenues; attention instead focussing on the middle-distance transportation of sarsen out of this region to Stonehenge. Though stone movements were local, we argue they were far from lacking in significance, as indicated by the subsequent monumentalization of at least two locations from which they were likely acquired. We argue that since such stones embodied place(s); their removal, movement and resetting represented a remarkably dynamic and potentially disruptive reconfiguration of theFor world as itPeer was known. Megal Reviewiths were never inert or stable matter, and we need to embrace this in our interpretative accounts if we are to understand the very different types of monument that emerged in prehistory as a result.

We, the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, having carried out our initial review of the electoral arrangements for the district of Kennet in accordance with the requirements of section 63 of, and Schedule 9 to, the Local Government Act 1972i present our proposals for the future electoral arrangements for that district* 2. In accordance with the procedure laid down in section 60 (l) and (2) of the 1972 Act, notice was given on 13 May 1974 that we were to undertake this » t review. This was incorporated in a consultation letter addressed to the Kennet District Council, copies of \rtiich were circulated to the Wiltshire County Council, Parish Councils and parish Meetings in the district, the Member of Parliament for the constituency concerned and the headquarters of the main political parties. Copies were also sent to the editors of the local newspapers circulating in the area and to the local government press.
