It claimed the lives of several million people and inflicted cruel and inhuman treatments on hundreds of million people. However, 40 years after it ended, the total number of victims of the Cultural Revolution and especially the death toll of mass killings still remain a mystery both in China and overseas. For the Chinese communist government, it is a highly classified state secret, although they do maintain statistics for the so-called abnormal death numbers all over China. Nevertheless, the government, realizing that the totalitarian regime and the endless power struggles in the CCP Central Committee (CCP CC) were the root cause of the Cultural Revolution, has consistently discounted the significance of looking back and reflecting on this important period of Chinese history. They even forbid Chinese scholars from studying it independently and discourage overseas scholars from undertaking research on this subject in China. Owing to difficulties that scholars in and outside China encounter in accessing state secrets, the exact figure of the abnormal death has become a recurring debate in the field of China studies. -

Wei Deng1&, Long Long2&*, Xian-Yan Tang3, Tian-Ren Huang1, Ji-Lin Li1, Min- Hua Rong1, Ke-Zhi Li1, Hai-Zhou Liu1 Abstract Geographic information system (GIS) technology has useful applications for epidemiology, enabling the detection of spatial patterns of disease dispersion and locating geographic areas at increased risk. In this study, we applied GIS technology to characterize the spatial pattern of mortality due to liver cancer in the autonomous region of Guangxi Zhuang in southwest China. A database with liver cancer mortality data for 1971-1973, 1990-1992, and 2004-2005, including geographic locations and climate conditions, was constructed, and the appropriate associations were investigated. It was found that the regions with the highest mortality rates were central Guangxi with Guigang City at the center, and southwest Guangxi centered in Fusui County. Regions with the lowest mortality rates were eastern Guangxi with Pingnan County at the center, and northern Guangxi centered in Sanjiang and Rongshui counties. Regarding climate conditions, in the 1990s the mortality rate of liver cancer positively correlated with average temperature and average minimum temperature, and negatively correlated with average precipitation. In 2004 through 2005, mortality due to liver cancer positively correlated with the average minimum temperature. Regions of high mortality had lower average humidity and higher average barometric pressure than did regions of low mortality. -

In the past 20 years public dissatisfaction with the cost prescription medications, combined with an interest in returning to natural or organic remedies, has led to an increase in herbal medicine use. Herbal medicine also called botanical medicine or phytomedicine refers to using a plant's seeds, berries, roots, leaves, barks and flowers for medicinal purposes. Ottelia alismoides is an traditional aquatic plant. The plant well below the surface of water usually anchored. Found both in stagnant and running water. It is used as medicinal plant for treating diseases like cancer, asthma, diabetes, tuberculosis, haemorrhoids, febrifuge, and rubifacient. Our present aim is to review all the work performed on the plant to get the clear idea to evaluate its various medicinal principles relating to ethanobotanical and phytopharmacological approaches. The author uses the web crawler technology and obtained 9345 journal papers related to rocky desertification from 1950s to 2016 in China. The authors also constructed a technological process to extract research hot regions on rocky desertification and then a spatial distribution map of research hot regions on rocky desertification was formed. Finally, the authors compared the spatial distribution using the sensitivity map of rocky desertification to find the differences between two maps. The study shows that: (1) rocky desertification research hot regions in China are mainly distributed in Guizhou, Yunnan and Guangxi, especially in Bijie, Liupanshui, Guiyang, Anshun, Qianxinan Autonomous Prefecture, QianNan Autonomous Prefecture, Qiandongnan Autonomous Prefecture in Guizhou Province, Hechi, Baise, Nanning, Guilin in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Zhaotong in Yunnan Province. (2) The research hot regions on rocky desertification have good spatial consistency with the sensitivity regions of rocky desertification. At the prefecture level, the overlap rate of the two regions reached 85%. -

Misra Post-Graduate Department of Botany, Magadh University, Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India Received November 20, 1972 The systematic status of Helobiae of Engler and Prantl (1936) to which Ottelia alismoidesPers. belongs has been subjected to considerable debate by taxonomists. In the two phylogenetic systems of classification, namely that of Engler and Prantl and that of Hutchinson, the position of this order varies significantly. Engler and Prantl considers Pandanales to represent the starting point of monocotyledons, me mbers of the order Helobiae being considered as advanced genera. On the other hand, Hutchinson, a champion of the reduction theory con siders the apparent simplicity in the floral structures of Pandanales of monocoty ledons is not due to primitiveness but due to extreme specialization and reduc tion. According to him, the two principal orders of Helobiales namely Alismatales and Butomales have been regarded as the two starting points of monocotyledons from which other orders of monocotyledons have been derived. He further stressed the origin of these two orders from Ranales of dicotyledon. In such case of taxonomic disputes, cytological evidences often provide with a good indication of phylogenetic relationship. Several workers have no doubt tried to deal with the cytology of the different members of Helobiae, Harada (1956), Sharmaand Bhattacharya (1956),Pogan (1961, 1962), Larsen (1963), Gadella and Kliphius (1963) practically no work has been done to study the karyotypes of Otteliaalismoides in relation to its different habitate. In this case high incidence of different degree of polyploidy have been obtained. -

The present study deals with a survey of the order Alismatales (except Araceae) in the upper and middle Araguaia River region located between the states of Mato Grosso and Goiás, Brazil. Field expeditions were carried out during the rainy and dry seasons. The route covered approximately 2,000 km and 41 aquatic environments were visited. Thirteen taxa, representing the farniliesAlismataceae (nine), Hydrocharitaceae (three) and Najadaceae (one) were identified. Keys for the identification of families and species in field, brief diagnoses, schematic illustrations and relevant comments were elaborated based on field observations as well as on the analysis ofthe specimens collected. As expedições para coleta de material, ocorridas tanto na época 'de chuvas quanto na seca, totalizaram cerca de 2.000 km percorridos, abrangendo 41 ambientes aquáticos. Foram identificados treze táxons pertencentes às famílias Alismataceae (nove), Hydrocharitaceae (três) e Najadaceae (uma). Foram elaboradas chaves para identificação em campo das famílias e espécies, descrições breves, ilustrações esquemáticas e comentários relevantes, baseados em dados levantados em campo e através da análise do material coletado.
