Swedish Open Championships in Table Tennis was played for the first time in 1954 in Stockholm. Since the start SOC has been played every or every other year except between 2007 and 2011. SOC has been played in several different cities all around Sweden, from Malmö in the south to Umeå up north. Stockholm is the city that has been the host of most SOC and the tournament in 2014 will be the 44th time that SOC is organized. SOC is a part of the International Table Tennis Federation World Tour series with tournaments all over the world where the players compete for points to qualify to the World Tour Grand Fi- nals. There are three different tiers at the World Tour – Super Series, Major Series and Chal- lenge Series. SOC is a Major Serie tournament but has historically always had world class play- ers. The tournament is played over five days, two days of qualification and three days of the main draw. The ongoing renovation of the Baku Sports Hall will unfortunately not be completed until March 2015. After consultation with and on instigation from BEGOC and due to logistical and technical circumstances it was decided to play exceptionally on 2 competition tables only. Page 1 of 12 Prize money €70.000 Winner €10.000 Runner-up €6.000 Third place €4.000 Fourth place €3.000 Five – Eight place €1.500 Nine – Twelve place €1.000 Thirteen – Sixteen place €500 Prize money will be paid in cash on site in the full amount. It is entirely the players’ responsibility to declare their prize money received as required according to and in the respect of the national laws of their country of residence. Playing system The tournament shall consist of 2 stages. Round-robin group matches in the first stage, followed by a progressive knockout draw to decide the first 8 (eight) positions. Group- stage will be played best of 5 games. From quarter-finals all matches and all position matches will be played best of 7 games. Losers of the quarter-finals will play for positions 5-8, respectively for positions 5-6 and for positions 7-8.
