Our Program

● 3 CMG, 1 IMG residents per year ● Small/midsize centre training ● Rural focus ○ 5+ months rural (1 month - R1, 4 months - R2) ○ Funding for NRP, ALARM, ATLS, PALS ○ Access to REAP funding for CARE-R, HOUSE ○ Priority choice for nearby rural locations and priority 2 for everything else Penticton Regional Hospital

● 1.5 blocks - General Surgery ○ 2 weeks of surgical subspecialty days (ie. ortho, urology, ENT) R1 Schedule

● 1.5 blocks - Pediatrics ○ 2 weeks Pediatric Emergency at BC Children's Hospital

● 1 block - Psychiatry/ER ○ 2 weeks local psychiatry ○ 2 weeks ER (includes time in Oliver for rural ER) R1 Schedule

● 0.5 blocks - Care of the Underserved ○ Martin Street Outreach Centre, Keremeos, Oliver ER, Oliver Correctional Centre ○ Includes addictions medicine training at Martin Street Outreach Centre

● 0.5 blocks - Community Inpatient Service (CIS) ○ Hospitalist service for unattached inpatients R1 Schedule

● Hospital Call ○ Mostly out -of-hospital call until 11pm, one evening per week ■ Higher volume rotations (ie. obstetrics) are in-house (pending volume) and 24 hours in length ○ 1 in 4 weekends, on average ○ Generally very flexible, make your own schedule and adjust pending volume and learning goals R2 Schedule

● 3 blocks - Electives (12 weeks)

● 1 block each - Palliative Care and Procedural Medicine ○ Anesthesia ○ Hospice ○ Ambulatory care clinics (ENT, Gen Sx, Cast Clinic, Derm)

● 0.5 blocks each - OB and Internal Medicine ○ Option to do OB in Surrey/Vernon for higher volumes R2 Schedule

● 1 block - ER in Penticton/Oliver

● 1 block - Care of the Underserved ○ Prison medicine (Oliver Correctional Centre) ○ Addictions medicine (Martin Street) ■ Option to get methadone/suboxone prescription license ○ Oliver ER ○ South Similkameen Health Centre (Keremeos) R2 Schedule

● 4 blocks - Rural Family Medicine ○ First priority to go to Osoyoos (1 hr away) - if desiring close proximity ○ Second round priority overall Our Challenges
