Donegal Peace Proms is sponsored by the Ulster-Scots Agency. Schools are expected to cover the cost of buses to and from the workshop and concert Parents, who wish to see the performance, can buy their tickets from An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny or on line from www.peaceproms.com Tickets are priced €12.50 or £10 (commission applies in some venues) CHOIR UNIFORM Choir members must wear a plain white t-shirt/shirt/blouse (no logos) and dark bottoms (uniform bottoms are fine – skirt and tights or trousers) On the day of the concert, choirs should arrive dressed in this choir uniform. Coats and jackets should not be worn. Choirs should wear their school uniform to the workshop. CONCERT DAY ( This is the usual schedule but it may change in which case you will be notified) Choirs arrive at concert venue 2 hours before the performance begins for a rehearsal with the orchestra. Choirs should arrive at concert hall dressed in their choir uniform as there are no changing facilities Choirs have a 1hour rehearsal and 40 minute break before the concert begins Choirs should be in their performance positions 20 minutes before the concert begins Choirs should bring a snack to have at the break Snack should be in a small plastic or paper bag Do not bring Hold Alls/Hand Bags/Carrier Bags/Ruck Sacks etc Do not bring jackets or coats if possible as they may get lost Teachers who wish their group to bring coats/jackets should bring a large bin liner. Put all your groups coats/jackets in the bin liner and store in a safe place. THE CONCERT Once the concert begins, the choir remains on stage at all times. Choirs may not leave the stage at the interval except where it is necessary. Teachers sit with their group for workshops and concerts, and supervise them at all times NO FOOD OR DRINK IS ALLOWED INTO THE AUDITORIUM COATS , JACKETS AND BAGS SHOULD NOT BE BROUGHT INTO THE AUDITORIUM TEACHERS There will be a presentation to the teachers of the choirs at the end of the concert. This will be rehearsed on the day of the concert. DONEGAL PEACE PROMS 26TH OCTOBER 2013 DONEGAL PEACE PROMS BACKGROUND Dear Parent/Guardian, Our school will be taking part in a musical education programme called “Peace Proms” in October. “Peace Proms” has been devised by the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI) over the past 18 years. Peace Proms aims to entertain, educate and engage children and young people in music and to enrich their lives through exceptional musical experiences and performances. The project objective is to help young people to develop qualities of self-reliance, personal integrity, responsibility, and confidence by giving them the opportunity to: Perform with a full symphony orchestra Work with leading professional conductors and musicians Perform in premier venues throughout Ireland Develop vocal technique, presentation and performance Experience a variety of musical styles and genres and develop an appreciation for these styles Peace Proms is supported by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and the Department of Education and Skills and is recognised as one of Ireland’s most important Arts Education initiatives, providing outstanding cultural opportunities for young people while promoting peace, unity and tolerance through music. In writing this thesis, I hope that I have, in some way, managed to explain the reasons for this cultural diversity. This thesis would not have been written without the assistance of my two supervisors, Professor Mike Cronin and Professor Matthew Taylor. Professor Cronin’s assistance and knowledge has transformed the way I think about history, society and sport while Professor Taylor’s expertise has also made me look at the writing of sports history and the development of society in a different way.

This is a rural area with only limited dispersed development and small villages and cross road settlements (Porthall village). 1.2 The lands of which the site forms part, are part of the grounds of Port Hall estate, the main feature of which is Port Hall, a Protected Structure that is accessed by a tree-lined avenue, and its associated outbuildings. The house is a two- storey over basement, five bay, former country house with attic level built c 1746. The land slopes gently away to the east, towards the river, and the house presents a three storey rear elevation in this direction.

Genealogy makes history come alive because when people learn about their ancestors, they are able to make connections to historical events. Family History is the biographical research into your ancestors. The aim is typically to produce a well-documented narrative history, of interest to family members and perhaps future generations. It involves putting flesh on the skeleton of what is produced by genealogy and involves the study of the historical circumstances and geographical situation in which ancestors lived. As custodians of the collective memory of County Donegal, genealogy/ family history resources are an important Culture Division service. This booklet was produced by the Library, Archives and Museum Services of the Culture Division, Donegal County Council to provide a brief introduction to resources available within these services and to other resources and agencies that can help to guide researchers in tracing their Donegal family tree. While Donegal County Library, Donegal County Archives and the Donegal County Museum are happy to provide guidance and assistance, they are not genealogical institutions and in general they cannot conduct detailed research for individuals.
