The sequence of steps is very basic, but it can be applied to any pluck or chord sound in Massive. We’ll go from this: PMP DEMO Creating A Groovy House Chord Pattern - M… Share 353 Cookie policy To this: PMP DEMO Creating A Groovy House Chord Pattern - FI… Share 199 Cookie policy The bass-line pattern and a variation of the chord pattern are also covered, at the end of the post. 1) The Main Pattern We’ll use a simple one-bar pattern of voiced Minor 9th chords. Well, this is actually a half-a-bar pattern, but there is a slight difference in the length of the hits across the two half bars. While for this sound the difference is subtle, adjusting note lengths can really make a difference on the overall groove: It sounds like this: PMP DEMO Creating A Groovy House Chord Pattern - M… Share 353 Cookie policy 2) Adding Some Swing Now we’ll use one of the built-in swing preset to add a groove that we cant get with a fixed 1/16 grid. So access your Core Library in Live and from the Swing and Groove folder and Logic sub- folder select the Logic 16 Swing 60 preset, or any other swing preset that works for your track. Drop the groove preset onto your midi clip and click Open Groove Pool. Here you can play with the Global Amount. This depends on your track, but a value of 80 seemed to fit well here: It sounds like this: PMP DEMO Creating A Groovy House Chord Pattern - S… Share 137 Cookie policy 3) Massive’s Synced Delay Now we can make use of Massive’s Synced Delay effect to fit our swing pattern better in the mix. So select the Delay Synced from any of the FX slots and set the rate to 1/16 to both left and right channels. Turn the Damp and Feedback knobs to max and the Dry/Wet to roughly 25%: It sounds like this: PMP DEMO Creating A Groovy House Chord Pattern - SY… Share 134 Cookie policy 4) Some Side-Chain Compression After adding the groove effect and the 1/16 synced delay in Massive, we can use some side-chain compression. This will lower the volume of the delay effect that hits on-beat and will add something new to the main groove: Hear the difference when the side-chain compression comes in: PMP DEMO Creating A Groovy House Chord Pattern - SI… Share 131 Cookie policy 5) The Bassline Pattern The bass-line pattern follows a simple 3-notes pattern and 1-bar progression E – F# – G#: It sounds like this: PMP DEMO Creating A Groovy House Chord Pattern - BA… Share 143 Cookie policy 6) Chord Pattern Variation Here’s a variation of the chord pattern, now extended to two bars. It also moves some of the minor 9th chords in the upper octave: It sounds like this: PMP DEMO Creating A Groovy House Chord Pattern - C… Share 149 Cookie policy And here’s a different pluck sound as these steps can be applied to any sound in Massive: PMP DEMO Creating A Groovy House Chord Pattern - DI… Share 130 Cookie policy The End So there you go. • Beatport Launches Mainstage Genre: Bring DJ Sets to Life with Tracks Inspired by the Festival Experience
For Immediate Release Beatport Launches Mainstage Genre: Bring DJ Sets to Life with Tracks Inspired by the Festival Experience Berlin, DE - June 25th - Beatport, the worldwide leader of electronic music for DJs, producers, and their fans, launches one dedicated genre page that will unite Big Room, Electro House, and Future House into one new genre category: Mainstage. Home to the high-energy sounds of the festival mainstage, this genre celebrates a diverse range of dance music fit for a sold-out crowd filled with the most dedicated ravers. Nestled under the Mainstage genre are five subgenres often heard on festival stages around the world: Big Room, Electro House, Future House, Midtempo, and Speed House. After collecting feedback from various labels, DJs, distributors, artists, and dance music communities alike, Beatport has decided that the following changes will give these sounds more visibility on the store and will allow for the creation of a Beatport Hype section. We feel by doing this, it will benefit our customers, artists, and labels by making this music easier to locate; additionally, receiving featured spots and reaching the top 10 within the genre will become the coveted position as it once was on Beatport. French DJ/producer, Tchami added “I think that the new Main Stage section will provide a more efficient and tightened up referencing for songs that have the same type of energy and belong to most main stages” Danish DJ/producer, MORTEN said ''We started Future Rave because we wanted to build a stronger connection to the international future dance music community. We love the reaction we are receiving from across the world and inspiring young producers to join the movement.” Prominent Dutch label, SPINNIN’ RECORDS stated, “It’s amazing to see Beatport making moves to make the genre more competitive and appealing! Even for our artists, the name ‘Mainstage’ has a nice ring to it.

  • GENRES EXPLAINED in This File
GENRES EXPLAINED As stated in this week’s ‘Track Analysis’ document, not all tracks are easy to fit in a typical genre-folder, when organising your songs. But, some background knowledge about how each genre sounds is helpful in shaping your collection. And, to communicate with colleagues, we think that everything written in this file is pretty essential know-how for every DJ. So, here are your must-know’s on each of today’s most relevant types of dance music! In this file: 1. HOUSE 2. HOUSE SUB-GENRE: JACKIN’ HOUSE 3. HOUSE SUB-GENRE: LATIN HOUSE 4. HOUSE SUB-GENRE: SOULFUL HOUSE 5. HOUSE SUB-GENRE: EDM 6. HOUSE SUB-GENRE: TECH-HOUSE 7. HOUSE SUB-GENRE: DEEPHOUSE 8. HOUSE SUB-GENRE: FUTURE HOUSE 9. TECHNO 10. TRANCE 11. DISCO 12. NU-DISCO 13. R&B 14. MOOMBAHTON 15. DRUM ‘n’ BASS Ofcourse there are many more genres to play as a DJ. Small ‘niches’ like 2-Step or Frenchcore and other variations on ‘bigger’ genres. But also big movements like Hip-Hop and Hardstyle. We chose the genres that are most present in the clubs and festivals worldwide at the time of writing, and in the past decade. Also, these are the genres that most of our students play or would like to play. HOUSE Description: ‘House’ is a generic term for anything with a 4-to-the-floor beat and a BPM between 120 and 130. Many genres described here, can be seen as a subgenre or spin-off from House. Also, nowadays, ‘house’ is often used as a collective nuon for anything from Soulful to commercial Deep- or Techhouse that doesn’t fit the specific subgenre’s characteristics.

Peggy Gou, "I Go" Peggy Gou - I Go After applying a balm to our collective anxiety last month with the downtempo ballad “Nabi,” Peggy Gou is pulling us back onto the danceoor with her new track “I Go.” Despite her relatively short tenure in the dance world, Gou is becoming a perennial summer banger-bringer, with hits such as 2018’s “It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)” and 2019’s “Starry Night” already in her pocket. (Last summer doesn’t count, for obvious reasons.) A ready successor, “I Go” is sparkling danceoor fantasy rendered in pink and lilac pastels, with Gou’s vocals breezing across trance-tinted melodies, a simmering acid synthline and a searing whistling sound that evokes images of seagulls soaring along the coast and endless horizons -- images of freedom and possibility.

  • Beatport Looks Back at 16 Years of Achievements
BEATPORT LOOKS BACK AT 16 YEARS OF ACHIEVEMENTS https://www.beatport.com Beatport just capped off another incredible year, and to celebrate, the world’s largest DJ download store is looking back at its major achievements, the year in trends, and its unwavering commitment to advancing the global dance music scene. Beatport is also looking back at the best selling releases of 2019 with the Best Sellers 2019 campaign, which highlights the top-selling tracks, compilations and DJ charts on the store last year. Since launching in 2004, Beatport has paid $300m to independent dance music labels — with over 259 million track downloads on the site. Beatport’s success is intertwined with the success of independent labels, and Beatport is proud to say that these payouts have consistently risen for the last three years. In 2019, Beatport also sold music for 74,000 independent labels. But that number continues to grow exponentially, and last year alone, 8,028 labels joined Beatport, while 589 artists reached number one. 2019 saw the launch of Beatport LINK, the world's most complete streaming platform for DJs, which allows users to stream any of the 9 million tracks available on the Beatport store directly to their DJ performance software. However, the launch of LINK Playlists late last year was a game-changer, giving users the ability to add curated content from the world’s biggest artists, clubs and labels. And in 2019, 420,000 unique playlists were available — though that number is continually growing. Beatport LINK is steadily opening up a new era for DJing, and is a major step towards changing how music is performed in clubs.
