FOR USE AS DESIRED NFL-PER-8 10/26/05 EAGLES SEEK TO KEEP NFC SOARING One of the highlights of the NFL’s Week 8 schedule is the interconference matchup in the Mile High city between the Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos. The Eagles are hoping to continue the NFC’s success against AFC opponents. Last week, the NFC posted a perfect 6-0 record in interconference games, including Philadelphia’s exciting 20-17 win over San Diego. The last time a similar conference sweep occurred was in 1998, when AFC teams posted a 5-0 mark in Week 2. The NFC leads the interconference series this season 17-14. Other Week 8 matchups pairing AFC and NFC teams: Green Bay at Cincinnati, Miami at New Orleans in Baton Rouge and Jacksonville at St. Louis.     Big 12 Conference Schools Raise Nine-Year NFL Draft Totals to 277 Alumni Through 2003 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Apr. 26, 2003 DALLAS—Big 12 Conference teams had 10 of the first 62 selections in the 35th annual NFL “common” draft (67th overall) Saturday and added a total of 13 for the opening day. The first-day tallies in the 2003 NFL draft brought the number Big 12 standouts taken from 1995-03 to 277. Over 90 Big 12 alumni signed free agent contracts after the 2000-02 drafts, and three of the first 13 standouts (six total in the first round) in the 2003 draft were Kansas State CB Terence Newman (fifth draftee), Oklahoma State DE Kevin Williams (ninth) Texas A&M DT Ty Warren (13th). Last year three Big 12 standouts were selected in the top eight choices (four of the initial 21), and the 2000 draft included three alumni from this conference in the first 20. Colorado, Nebraska and Florida State paced all schools nationally in the 1995-97 era with 21 NFL draft choices apiece. Eleven Big 12 schools also had at least one youngster chosen in the eight-round draft during 1998. Over the last six (1998-03) NFL postings, there were 73 Big 12 Conference selections among the Top 100. There were 217 Big 12 schools’ grid representatives on 2002 NFL opening day rosters from all 12 members after 297 standouts from league members in ’02 entered NFL training camps—both all-time highs for the league. Nebraska (35 alumni) was third among all Division I-A schools in 2002 opening day roster men in the highest professional football configuration while Texas A&M (30) was among the Top Six in total NFL alumni last autumn.

    137 PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME All-time Florida State gridiron greats Walter Jones and Derrick Brooks are used to making history. The longtime NFL stars added an achievement that will without a doubt move to the top of their accolade-filled biographies when they were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame inAugust, 2014. Jones and Brooks became the first pair of first-ballot Hall of Famers from the same class who attended the same college in over 40 years. The pair’s journey together started 20 years ago. Just as Brooks was wrapping up his All-America career at Florida State in 1994, Jones was joining the Seminoles out of Holmes Community College (Miss.) for the 1995 season. DERRICK BROOKS Linebacker 1991-94 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame WALTER JONES Offensive Tackle 1995-96 2014 Pro Football Hall of Fame 138 PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME They never played on the same team at Florida State, but Jones distinctly remembers how excited he was to follow in the footsteps of the star linebacker whom he called the face of the Seminoles’ program. Jones and Brooks were the best at what they did for over a decade in the NFL. Brooks went to 11 Pro Bowls and never missed a game in 14 seasons (all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), while Jones became the NFL’s premier left tackle, going to nine Pro Bowls over 12 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. Both retired in 2008, and, six years later, Jones and Brooks were teammates for the first time as first-ballot Hall of Famers.

    2018 ANNUAL REPORT The NFL Player Care Foundation (PCF) is an independent organization dedicated to helping retired players improve their quality of life. PCF addresses all aspects of life by providing programs and assistance with medical, emotional, financial, social and community issues. In 2008 PCF completed its first-full year as an independent, 501(c) (3) non-profit foundation dedicated to improving the quality of life of former NFL players. We seek to accomplish our mission by providing financial assistance to those in need and conducting health-related research for their benefit. Since its inception, PCF has come to better understand the needs of former players and how to address those needs. During the last year PCF has worked to strengthen its connection to clubs and other partners to enhance awareness of presence and mission, and to generate new resources to support its mission. We endeavored to visit each NFL club and meet with the executives tasked with helping former players. As a result of these visits, PCF participated in the “My Cause My Cleats” initiative, received revenue from a successful fundraiser held as part of the NFL draft, had access to NFL players at the Pro Bowl to increase awareness, and collaborated with NFL clubs on alumni events with many former players in attendance. Through these efforts we built bridges to former players at a grassroots level and provided PCF with a variety of new resources.
