Histrical Background Changlang District covered with picturesque hills lies in the south-eastern corner of Arunachal Pradesh, northeast India. It has an area of 4,662 sqr. Km and a population of 1,48,226 persons as per 2011 Census. According to legend the name Changlang owes its origin to the local word CHANGLANGKAN which means a hilltop where people discovered the poisonous herb, which is used for poisoning fish in the river. Changlang District has reached the stage in its present set up through a gradual development of Administration. Prior to 14th November 1987, it was a part of Tirap District. Under the Arunachal Pradesh Reorganization of Districts Amendment Bill, 1987,the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, formally declared the area as a new District on 14th November 1987 and became 10th district of Arunachal Pradesh. The legacy of Second World War, the historic Stilwell Road (Ledo Road), which was constructed during the Second World War by the Allied Soldiers from Ledo in Assam, India to Kunming, China via hills and valleys of impenetrable forests of north Burma (Myanmar) which section of this road is also passed through Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh and remnant of Second World War Cemetery one can see at Jairampur – Nampong road. Location and Boundary The District lies between the Latitudes 26°40’N and 27°40’N, and Longitudes 95°11’E and 97°11’E .It is bounded by Tinsukia District of Assam and Lohit District of Arunachal Pradesh in the north, by Tirap District in the west and by Myanmar in the south-east. -

APGCL has conceived setting up a Thermal Power Station which consists of Coal Fired Boiler, Steam Turbine Generator Units and Balanced of Plant (BOP) Units. Based on the proposed capacity, the project is supposed to fall under category A of Project Activity 1(d), Thermal Power Plants (≥ 500 MW coal/ lignite/ naptha & gas based) under the schedule as per EIA notification issued on 14th September, 2006. In order to assess the likely impacts from current project on the surrounding environment and evaluating the means of alleviating the likely negative impacts, if any, from the proposed project, APGCL has retained Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd. as their environmental consultant. The proposal was considered by the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) in during its 66th Meeting on 6th February, 2013 for determination of the Terms of Reference for undertaking detailed EIA Study in accordance with the provisions of the EIA notification dated 14th September, 2006. -

International Journal of Humanities and Social Science Vol. 4, No. 9(1); July 2014 The Historical Road for Common Prosperity of South East Asia Dr (Mrs) Juri Gogoi Konwar Assistant Professor, Dept of Cultural Studies Tezpur Central University Assam India – 784028 Abstract During the Second World War, the road from Ledo, North East Frontier rail station of Assam, India, to Kunming of Yunnan province, China via Lekhapani, Jairampur, Nampong and Pangsau pass of Patkai range, Shindbwiyang, Upper Chindwin, Hukawng and Mogaung valleys, Bhamo, Burma (Myanmar) road and then to Wanting, at China border was constructed by the Allied Forces for maintaining military supply by road. Starting on December 1, 1942 the construction was completed on May 20, 1945. The road passed through some of the most difficult mountainous terrains of the world having 700 bridges over big and small rivers. After the war, for some time the road was maintained, thereafter it remained to be almost completely neglected. In the light of ‘Open Market Policy’ adopted by the international community, desire of the South East Asian countries to have common economic prosperity and ‘Look East Policy’ of India, it is important for the concerned countries to reconstruct and reopen the road. The paper presents an account of its possible utilization for the socio-cultural and economic linkages of the connected and nearby countries for peace and prosperity. CENSUS OF INDIA 2011 ARUNACHAL PRADESH SERIES – 13 PART XII – A DISTRICT CENSUS HANBOOK CHANGLANG VILLAGE AND TOWN DIRECTORY DIRECTORATE OF CENSUS OPERATIONS, ARUNACHAL PRADESH Big Cat-Tiger at Namdapha National Park: Changlang District NAMDAPHA, a Tiger Reserve and National Park, is a true wilderness and enchanting beauty of lush green vegetation, impenetrable and pristine virgin forest covering an area of 1985.23 sq.kms located in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh along the international boundary with Myanmar. Namdapha National Park is located at a few kilometers away from Miao amidst misty blue hills along the turbulent Noa-Dihing river in the sprawling tropical rain forest. It was declared as Tiger Reserve by the Government of India in 1983. The beautiful forest possesses great biodiversity of Flora and Fauna. It is believed that a comprehensive survey of species and its genetic variation of the National Park may take as long as 50 years to know its botanical resources. There are more than 150 timber species available in the forest. The Pinus merkusi and Abies delavavi available in the forest are not found elsewhere in India. One of the rarest and endangered orchids, the Blue Vanda is found in this park. A popular local medicinal plant called Mishimi Teeta (Copti teeta) which is used by the local tribal for all kinds of diseases is available but its export has been banned. Namdapha is the only the only park in the world to have four Feline species of big cat namely tiger (Panthera Tigris), Leopard (Panthera Pardus), Snow Leopard (PantheraUncia) and Clouded Leopard (Neofelis Nebulosa). -

Assembly Elections 2016 DISTRICT PROFILE Fig:Map of Tinsukia District a. History & Overview : The ancient name of Tinsukia was Bangmara which was orginally known as Changmai Pathar. It was the capital of Muttack Kingdom. The Bangmara city was built by King Sarbananda Singha with the help of his Minister Gopinath Barbaruah alies Godha. The city was built in the middle of the present Tinsukia City (near 1 Assembly Elections 2016 the Senairam H.S. School). As per the direction of Sarbananda Singha, Godha Baruah dug a triangler shaped pond in Bangmara which is known as "Tinikunia Pukhuri". In 1884 Dibru-Sadiya Rail line was constructed and a station was setup near the "Tinikunia Phukhuri" which was named as Tinsukia. Since then the City was popularly known as Tinsukia. The muttack Kingdom occupied a distinct place in the history of Assam during the later part of the 18th century and the early part of 19th century. The Moamareeyas or the Muttacks turned the history of the mighty Ahom Kingdom by leading the historic Moamareeya Rebellion, which may be described as the first socio-political movement in the history of Assam. According to the map prepared by Captain Hemilton Vetch in 1841, a large portion of present Dibrugarh and Tinsukia district had been identified as "Bengmara Country of Moamareeya Tribe" with its capital at Bengmara (present Tinsukia). In the history of Assam, this Bengmara Country was later popularly known as Muttack Country of Soumar, early name of a region in the North East corner of Assam. The First King of Muttack Kingdom was Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha.
