Estimated food security outcomes, March and southeastern pastoral and agropastoral parts of the 2011 country face critical shortages of water and pasture. The anticipated below normal April to June 2011 rains are likely to further limit the availability of pastoral resources leading to increased humanitarian assistance needs in these areas. • Inadequate rains affected land preparation and planting of crops in the main belg producing areas of Amhara, Oromia, and SNNP Regions. This, coupled with ongoing humanitarian assistance, will continue to stabilize food security among poor and very poor households in these areas.     ETHIOPIA Food Security Outlook October 2019 to May 2020 Average Meher harvest likely, though poor Belg/Gu and high prices drive Crisis (IPC Phase 3) outcomes KEY MESSAGES • Deyr/Hagaya rains in southern and southeastern Current food security outcomes, October 2019 Ethiopia were significantly above average in October, resulting in one of the wettest Octobers on the historical record. Localized flooding occurred in Oromio, SNNPR, and Somali Regions, displacing 205,000 people and causing localized crop and livestock losses. A flooding risk continues for these areas as rainfall for the rest of the season is forecast to be above average. Localized, negative impacts are expected; however, the above- average rainfall will also lead to favorable pasture and crop development. • National Meher production is expected to be average due to generally favorable June to September Kiremt rainfall. Indeed, while it was agreed that the field teams would complete the assessments and update the operational strategy within two weeks, unfortunately, due to increased tensions, protests and the heavy mobilization and presence of the military, movements were restricted in the targeted region while Internet shutdown continued for more than two weeks following the start of the operation. Based on this, ERCS team was advised not to conduct the assessment until the situation was calm, which significantly delayed the assessment beyond agreed timeframe for the activity. ERCS and EACCST are using this opportunity as a lesson learnt, which will support finetuning of remote monitoring and assessment tools to ensure continuity of programs in similar situations.

Multiple logistic regressions were carried out to examine the existence of a relationship between inten- tions for the continuation of FGM and selected determinant factors.
