AKO TAHI - LEARNING TOGETHER At Hikuai School we believe in the value of learning together. This is highlighted in our school charter where we identified four key unifying principles, including “Hikuai School is a place with a real family atmosphere”. We’ve taken this fundamental principle a step further by incorporating Ako Tahi - Learning Together into our daily curriculum. While the main focus is still core subjects, we’ve also introduced passion-based learning which is delivering real benefits. With the emphasis placed directly upon student creativity, adaptability, perseverance, courage and self-awareness the students become better readers, writers, thinkers, collaborators and most importantly passion-driven learners.

Throughout the course of the year students come together to experience a variety of shared learning initiatives including Genius/Discovery Time, S.K.I.L.L.s (Sportsmanship, Knowledge, Integrity, Leadership, Loyalty) and Tahi o Wairua - The Spirit Together (House Sports). The benefit of this type of learning is that pupils can clearly demonstrate key competencies of the NZ Curriculum such as thinking, relating to others, participating and contributing.
