Mia Flewitt Secures Second Successive Pure Mclaren GT Series Title in Bahrain MEDIA Media release 13.00 GMT, November 29, 2019 Mia Flewitt secures second successive Pure McLaren GT Series title in Bahrain ▪ Mia Flewitt successfully defends Pure McLaren GT Series championship title ▪ Race wins for Al-Khalifa, Ojjeh and Proctor as 2019 season concludes in Bahrain ▪ First ever night races for Pure McLaren GT Series The final event of the 2019 FIA-approved Pure McLaren GT Series season took place in Bahrain on November 26-28 with a field of 19 McLaren 570S GT4 cars competing on the 5.412 km (3.363 mi) Sakhir circuit, also home to the Bahrain Grand Prix. With the championship set to be decided, there was a lot at stake in the final three races of the season, with reigning champion Mia Flewitt aiming to fend off rookie challenger Nick Moss. Adding to the excitement, these would be the first ever Pure McLaren GT Series races to be held at night. Heading both title contenders in qualifying on the opening day of the event, however, was invitation class driver Isa Al-Khalifa, who took pole position for race one. Points leader Flewitt would share the front of the grid, fastest of the championship competitors but Moss was unable to lap within a second of the pole time, and joined Issam Charrouf on the next row. Despite dropping to fourth place on the opening lap, Al-Khalifa quickly recovered to win the opening race. Meanwhile there was plenty of action behind, mostly from Moss who tailed leader Flewitt on the opening tour before falling to fifth, sparking a stirring recovery drive. He clawed his way back to third place as Charrouf dropped down the order, but Flewitt responded perfectly to win the championship points race, opening the gap to her closest rival. Moss fared much better in qualifying on the second day, taking a front row slot alongside polesitter and Bruce McLaren Cup rival Patrice Gautier. Christian Buechel and Peter Karpati shared the second row, whilst Flewitt could only manage seventh place in the session. Moss got the jump on Gautier to take an early lead in the race, but quickly lost out not just to the pole man, but also Karpati and Sultan Ojjeh. Title rival Flewitt also ensured fluctuating fortunes, initially losing two places before regaining them via a late charge that netted sixth overall just one behind MEDIA Moss and now just three points short of a successful title defence. The race was won by Ojjeh, who took the lead late on, with Karpati wresting second from Gautier. Al-Khalifa returned for the final race and again set impressive times in qualifying to take pole position with Gautier completing the front row, ahead of Flewitt and Proctor. Moss, meanwhile, would start from sixth place on the grid. This time, Al-Khalifa was unable to break away from the chasing pack and a thrilling race ensued, with Gautier and Proctor losing ground as Moss surged to second place and kept the leader under close scrutiny. In the tense battle that followed, Moss, Proctor and Flewitt swapped places but Al-Khalifa seemed set fair until the closing laps when the order shuffled dramatically. Proctor was the main beneficiary, taking the win from Al-Khalifa with Flewitt completing the podium a net second place - ahead of Brendan Iribe and Moss. Moss ended the season with the Bruce McLaren Cup title for the best rookie driver. The Pure McLaren GT Series will return in 2020, with the new calendar set to be confirmed shortly. • Grand Tourer’
MEDIA Media information 8:00 ET, April 3, 2019 — McLaren readies rule-breaking ‘Grand Tourer’ . The McLaren of Grand Tourers reveals its sleek, elegant shape . First announced by CEO, Mike Flewitt, during McLaren’s Geneva press conference . Disguising camouflage to be removed in May . The fourth McLaren to be revealed under the company’sTrack25 business plan . Follow cars.mclaren.com/newrules McLaren has removed the shape-changing, additional body panels previously used to hide the form of its imminent, rule-breaking ‘Grand Tourer’. The car’s sleek and boldly elegant design can now be discerned although the lightweight body remains covered by a shrink-wrapped livery that suggests the number of established rules the McLaren of Grand Tourers will break. The company is promising it will begin to peel off this disguise this May. The application of the shrink-wrap will also enable the Development Team to enter the closing stages of the car’s extensive evaluation program, which has already encompassed thousands of miles in hot and cold climates across the globe. The ‘Grand Tourer’ has proven its ability to cover long distances in supreme comfort, but always with extra shape-changing and noise-inducing panels applied. Now that these have been removed, the Development Team will run further validation tests, including a 1,000 mile drive from McLaren’s development base near Barcelona, Spain, back to the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England. To be completed in one stint with two occupants and a full complement of luggage, this is one of many long-distance drives that will help the team to confirm the new model is both comfortable and refined over the long distances a grand tourer is expected to consume … one rule that McLaren won’t be breaking.

  • First Mclaren Speedtail Attribute Prototype, ‘Albert’ Squares up to Rigorous Real-World Testing As Development Accelerates
MEDIA Media Information 08:00 EST, November 09, 2018 — First McLaren Speedtail attribute prototype, ‘Albert’ squares up to rigorous real-world testing as development accelerates ▪ McLaren’s new ‘Hyper GT’ embarks on year-long test regime underpinning development of new center-seat, 250mph hybrid ▪ Closed-facility testing of the fastest McLaren ever now underway; public road trials due to commence in December 2018 ▪ Attribute prototypes join Speedtail ‘mules’ in ongoing durability testing ▪ First attribute prototype affectionately christened ‘Albert’, in tribute to its famous McLaren F1 forebear that was designed in Albert Drive, Woking, Surrey UK ▪ First customer deliveries of McLaren Speedtail due early 2020 The first hybrid powertrain prototype of McLaren Automotive’s breathtaking new Ultimate Series flagship, the McLaren Speedtail, officially embarks this week on a year-long test regime that will underpin the development of the first McLaren Hyper-GT. The punishing test program in the run-up to production commencing at the end of 2019 will see Speedtail prototypes running in Europe, North America and Africa, initially at bespoke automotive test facilities but later amongst traffic on ‘normal’ roads. Deployment of the first Speedtail attribute prototype marks an exciting new stage in the development of the fastest, most aerodynamic and most luxurious McLaren ever made. The prototype is officially designated MVY02* but echoing the naming of development test mules of its legendary forebear, the 1992 McLaren F1, has been christened, ‘Albert’. This is a respectful reflection not only on the name of the McLaren F1 mule ‘Albert’ but also the Albert Drive premises in which the F1 was designed.

  • Secrets of the Speedtail: the Race-Bred Electric Drive and Ground-Breaking Battery Technology in Mclaren's Hybrid Hyper-GT
MEDIA Media release 8:00a.m. ET April 30, 2020 — Secrets of the Speedtail: the race-bred electric drive and ground-breaking battery technology in McLaren’s hybrid Hyper-GT . McLaren Speedtail has the highest specific battery power of any production road car . Hybrid Hyper-GT uses motorsport technology to supplement twin-turbocharged V8 . Innovative battery cooling system enables electric drive to work harder for longer Following the announcement that the Speedtail – the fastest McLaren ever – had completed high- speed validation tests in the United States and reached its maximum speed of 250mph more than 30 times, McLaren engineers have been asked one question more than any other: ‘How does Speedtail go that fast?’ The answer is that a combination of attributes, including aerodynamic excellence and low vehicle weight, delivers the hybrid Hyper-GT’s astonishing performance. Fundamental to this is a race-bred electric drive system that incorporates pioneering battery technology to set a new benchmark for hybridised efficiency. This unlocks the Speedtail’s intense acceleration from standstill to 186mph in a breath-taking 13 seconds and maximum speed of 250mph. The M840TQ powertrain comprises a 4.0-liter internal combustion engine and an electric drive unit, which together develop up to 1,055bhp and maximum torque of 848lb ft. The V8 engine features technology that has evolved from McLaren’s first hybrid hypercar, the legendary McLaren P1™. A new lightweight air-intake system, improved cylinder head cooling and a revised piston design contribute 747bhp and 590lb ft of ‘traditional’ petrol-powered output to the Speedtail. The electric motor, which uses Formula E-derived technology, generates more than 308bhp (230kW).
